What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Performance Coach / Personal Trainer position at Maximize Potential?
About Maximize Potential
Maximize Potential is a private personal training and sports performance facility serving Belton, Temple, and the surrounding Central Texas area.
We work with middle school, high school, collegiate, and competitive athletes as well as adults who want to become stronger, move better, and improve their overall health.
Our sports performance programs focus on developing the complete athlete through speed, agility, strength, power, mobility, injury prevention, and proper movement mechanics.
We have worked with hundreds of athletes ranging from youth athletes to collegiate and professional competitors, including athletes competing in the NBA, MLB, professional lacrosse, overseas basketball, and Olympic level competition.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for another great coach to join our team.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves coaching.
You should be comfortable working with both athletes and adults and be excited about helping people improve, whether that means helping a middle school athlete learn how to move correctly, helping a high school athlete become faster and more explosive, or helping an adult become stronger and healthier.
We care much more about finding the right person than simply finding someone who can count reps.
We want a coach who communicates well, brings energy to the facility, wants to continue learning, and takes pride in providing a great experience every time someone walks through our doors.
Responsibilities
As a Sports Performance Coach and Personal Trainer at Maximize Potential, you will:
- Coach middle school, high school, collegiate, and competitive athletes
- Coach adult personal training and small group fitness sessions
- Teach proper strength training technique and movement mechanics
- Coach acceleration, sprinting, agility, change of direction, jumping, and power development
- Modify exercises appropriately based on an individual's ability, training experience, or limitations
- Create a positive, energetic, and professional training environment
- Provide individual coaching and feedback during every session
- Help athletes and adults understand the purpose behind their training
- Build relationships with athletes, parents, and adult members
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional training environment
- Follow Maximize Potential's training systems and coaching standards
- Participate in staff education, coach development, and continuing education
- Assist with athlete assessments, performance testing, and combines
- Assist with team training programs when needed
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate:
- Loves coaching and working with people
- Has strong communication skills
- Is dependable and professional
- Brings positive energy into every training session
- Is comfortable coaching both athletes and adults
- Is willing to receive feedback and continue developing as a coach
- Understands that great coaching involves more than simply writing workouts
- Can command a room while still providing individualized coaching
- Takes initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do
- Works well as part of a coaching team
- Wants to build a career in strength, conditioning, fitness, or sports performance
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, or a related field is preferred.
Current students nearing completion of a related degree may also be considered.
Preferred certifications include:
- CSCS
- NSCA CPT
- NASM CPT
- ACSM CPT
- ACE CPT
- USA Weightlifting
- Similar nationally recognized certification
CPR and AED certification is required or must be obtained before coaching independently.
Previous coaching or personal training experience is preferred, but we are willing to develop the right person.
Sports Performance Experience
Previous experience coaching speed, agility, strength, or sports performance is a plus, but you do not need to know everything when you walk through the door.
We have established systems for athlete development and will teach you how we coach.
Our athletes train using structured progressions for acceleration, maximum velocity, agility, change of direction, jumping, landing, strength, power, mobility, and injury prevention.
We want coaches who are excited to learn those systems and eventually become excellent at teaching them.
What You Will Coach
Our facility offers several different training environments.
Youth Sports Performance
Foundational athletic development for younger athletes with an emphasis on coordination, balance, speed, agility, movement quality, and confidence.
Sports Performance Training
Training for middle school, high school, collegiate, and competitive athletes focused on speed, strength, power, agility, mobility, and overall athletic development.
Adult Personal Training
Individualized strength and fitness training designed to help adults move better, become stronger, and improve their health.
Adult Small Group Training
Coach led strength and conditioning sessions with individualized modifications based on each person's abilities and goals.
Team Training
Strength, speed, agility, and performance training for local sports teams and organizations.
Our Facility
Maximize Potential is built specifically for coaching.
Our facility includes indoor training space, multiple turf areas, a full strength training area, cable and rack systems, free weights, sleds, plyometric equipment, medicine balls, resistance equipment, sprint timing systems, vertical jump testing equipment, and other sports performance technology.
We also have dedicated systems for athlete testing and performance tracking.
This gives our coaches the ability to do much more than traditional gym based personal training.
Coach Development
We do not expect a new coach to immediately walk in and coach sessions alone.
New coaches will go through our onboarding and coaching development process.
You will spend time observing experienced coaches, learning our systems, assisting during sessions, and gradually taking on more coaching responsibility.
We want you to understand not only what we coach, but how and why we coach it.
Feedback and continued education are a normal part of working at Maximize Potential.
Schedule
This position will initially be part time with the opportunity for additional hours and responsibilities as our programs continue to grow.
Our busiest training hours are after school and in the evenings, so applicants must have consistent afternoon and evening availability.
Additional morning, weekend, team training, testing, and special program opportunities may also be available.
We are looking for someone who wants the opportunity to grow with the business rather than simply pick up an occasional training session.
Why Work at Maximize Potential?
This is an opportunity to coach in an environment where coaching actually matters.
You will have the opportunity to work with athletes across multiple sports and ability levels, develop your skills as a coach, learn established sports performance systems, and become part of a growing training facility in the Belton and Temple community.
You will also work alongside coaches with backgrounds in strength and conditioning, sports performance, corrective exercise, nutrition, collegiate athletics, and personal training.
Our goal is to continue building one of the strongest coaching teams in Central Texas.
This Position May Be a Great Fit If You Are:
An Exercise Science or Kinesiology graduate looking to begin your coaching career
A personal trainer who wants to work with more athletes
A strength coach looking for additional coaching opportunities
A former athlete who has entered the strength and conditioning field
A coach who wants mentorship and continued professional development
Someone who wants to build a long term career in sports performance and personal training
