This position offers a unique opportunity for professionals with experience originating debt and equity—or those eager to break into commercial real estate finance—to join one of the nation’s fastest-growing boutique investment banks.
Max Benjamin Partners (“MBP”) is seeking a highly motivated and driven individual to join our Capital Markets team as an Associate Originator in our San Diego office. This position offers a unique opportunity for professionals with experience originating debt and equity—or those eager to break into commercial real estate finance—to join one of the nation’s fastest-growing boutique investment banks.
The Associate will originate and execute commercial real estate loans and equity placements while helping manage MBP’s extensive national pipeline. This hybrid role combines remote flexibility with in-office collaboration in downtown San Diego. Candidates must be capable of managing the full financing process—from outreach and origination through underwriting, application, and closing—while operating in a fast-paced, deal-oriented environment alongside a tight-knit team of 20 LA-based originators funding over $850M annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate, structure, and execute commercial real estate debt and equity transactions.
- Conduct quick analyses, financial modeling, and underwriting for active deals.
- Communicate daily with borrowers, lenders, attorneys, title/escrow officers, and third-party vendors.
- Maintain detailed transaction checklists, timelines, and loan application files.
- Coordinate loan documentation, third-party requirements, and closing deliverables.
- Review, organize, and submit lender closing documentation, zoning letters, and certificates of occupancy.
- Manage post-closing processes, ensuring accurate submission to servicing and clients.
- Track active pipeline activity and maintain reporting within MBP’s CRM.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Real Estate preferred.

2 years of experience in commercial real estate capital markets, lending, or banking (originations experience preferred).
- Strong analytical, underwriting, and Excel modeling skills.
- Familiarity with escrow, title, or legal documentation a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with strong client management presence.
- Exceptional organization and project management skills; able to handle multiple deals concurrently.
- Confident, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
- Target-driven with ambition to grow and succeed in a sales-driven environment.
Compensation:
Commission-based per industry standards with one of the most competitive split structures in the market, plus growth and leadership opportunities.
