Embedding Technician

The Embedding Technician is responsible for accurately embedding tissue specimens in paraffin wax to ensure proper orientation for microscopic analysis. This role requires careful tissue handling, attention to detail, and adherence to confidentiality and regulatory standards. In addition to core responsibilities, the technician may also assist with other ancillary laboratory tasks as needed, based on operational demands, individual skills, and professional interests. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Tissue Embedding: Precisely and accurately embed multiple tissue fragments in paraffin wax molds, ensuring linear orientation and a uniform plane for optimal sectioning. 

• Tissue Handling: Apply proper techniques to prevent cross-contamination and preserve tissue integrity throughout the embedding process. 

• Analytical Judgment: Use knowledge, attention to detail, and sound judgment to identify and resolve potential errors in specimen preparation. 

• Confidentiality: Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. 

• Documentation & Cleanliness: Maintain accurate records and ensure the embedding station is clean, organized, and compliant with regulatory standards. 

• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all relevant guidelines including CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and internal laboratory policies and procedures. 

• Flexibility & Support: Perform additional laboratory tasks as needed, based on operational demands and individual skills or interests.
