This role blends strategic planning with hands-on execution from pricing and promotions to vendor partnerships and P&L optimization and plays a key role in shaping the products and experiences our customers love across all Maverik stores. You’ll collaborate with suppliers, marketing, finance, and operations to drive category performance and continually improve Maverik’s competitive position.

Location / Schedule: This role is based at our Salt Lake City Headquarters with a 4-day in-office hybrid schedule.
Position Summary & Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The Category Manager is responsible for managing the performance, pricing, promotions, and profitability of assigned product categories, developing long-term category strategies while supporting daily business execution.
Primary Responsibilities
Monitor category sales, trends, and P&L reports to identify opportunities.
Build and optimize category pricing, promotions, and product assortments.
Lead supplier relationships, including negotiations on cost, promotional funding, and contracts.
Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Operations, and Finance to align category plans.
Ensure in-stock levels and coordinate with internal teams to resolve supply issues.
Track performance of promotions and category initiatives; lead test-and-learn projects.
Contribute to the annual operating plan and long-term category growth strategies.
Identify process improvements that impact cost, efficiency, or customer experience.

Required Experience
Category management or buying experience (CPG or retail preferred), including managing assortments, pricing, or promotions.
P&L ownership or strong financial acumen, with experience driving margin and sales results.
Vendor management and negotiation experience — ideally with pricing, funding, or contract negotiation.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
Cross-functional collaboration skills, working with marketing, operations, and finance to execute plans and solve issues.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $75,000–$85,000 + DOE and Bonus Opportunities
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Maverik considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers, such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
