About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling Specialist to ensure our injection molds operate at peak performance. In this role, you will be instrumental in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining injection molds, directly impacting production efficiency and product quality. Your expertise in mold maintenance and repair will be essential in minimizing downtime and optimizing our manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and resolve mold-related production issues, addressing concerns such as flash, short shots, sticking parts, and cosmetic defects to maintain product integrity.
- Disassemble molds for thorough cleaning, polishing, and lubrication, replacing worn components like pins, bushings, lifters, slides, and ejectors to extend mold lifespan.
- Maintain and repair hot runner systems, addressing issues with heaters, thermocouples, leaks, and wiring to ensure consistent melt delivery.
- Conduct detailed inspections of cooling lines, vents, and parting lines, ensuring optimal mold performance and preventing defects.
- Perform rapid mold repairs to quickly restore production capabilities, minimizing disruptions and maintaining output.
- Collaborate with process technicians, operators, quality control, and supervisors to address tooling issues and improve overall production processes.
- Reverse engineer damaged mold components using CADD and manual measurements, facilitating accurate and timely repairs.
Required Skills
- 10 years of hands-on tooling experience in a plastic injection molding environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of injection molds and their functionality.
- Proven experience working directly on molds within a production setting.
- Proficiency in reading mold prints and understanding mold construction.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools, measuring instruments, and shop equipment.
- Ability to operate all manual toolroom equipment, including mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
Preferred Skills
- Tool & Die, Mold Making, or technical trade certification.
- Experience with EDM sinker and wire operations.
- Experience with Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks.
- Experience with HAAS CNC mill.
- Experience working on molds with an overhead crane.
