Role Overview
An expanding manufacturer specializing in custom equipment and industrial automation is looking for a skilled Field Service Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of equipment support, including installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and providing training to clients.
Your Impact
This role is deeply technical and requires a willingness to travel up to 75% of the time across North America. As the lead onsite representative, you will manage project activities while working directly at vendor, company, and client locations.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute final equipment runoffs, debugging, testing, and assembly.
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of custom machinery at client sites to ensure successful integration.
- Resolve complex issues involving pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and PLC systems.
- Provide project management with updates regarding technical concerns, pending tasks, and overall status.
- Manage onsite priorities and activities through direct collaboration with customer stakeholders.
- Generate comprehensive service documentation to track finished tasks and outstanding requirements.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to implement onsite modifications and equipment changes.
- Assess the necessary materials, time, and services needed to execute equipment adjustments.
- Help improve equipment performance and support preventive maintenance and spare-parts needs.
- Educate client staff on proper equipment maintenance, setup, and operational procedures.
- Monitor project expenses, labor, and material costs.
- Foster strong client relationships through consistent and professional communication.
- Uphold high quality standards to ensure all work meets both company and customer expectations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal training in machine building, toolmaking, industrial maintenance, or a similar technical discipline.
- Background in the service, commissioning, installation, or construction of custom automated machinery.
- Proficiency in interpreting pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and resolving issues with PLC-controlled systems.
- Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Omron, Siemens, or Allen-Bradley.
- Competency in using computer software for technical support, print viewing, and reporting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Superior organizational, customer-service, and communication abilities.
- Capacity to operate autonomously within client facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- A college diploma or technical degree in mechatronics, automation, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Significant experience in industrial automation, machine building, or the automotive manufacturing sector.
- Proven history of managing customer runoffs, equipment startups, and installations.
- Experience providing technical support for highly automated or robotic manufacturing systems.
Physical and Travel Requirements
- Availability to travel up to 75% of the time throughout Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
- Possession of a valid U.S. passport with the ability to travel internationally.
- Comfort working within shop-floor and active manufacturing settings.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools, computers, power tools, and hand tools safely.
