Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado

Company: Matukat Construction

Salary Range: $60,000 – $90,000

About the Role

Matukat Construction is seeking a Human Resources Manager to own the day to day HR operations of a growing commercial general contractor. This role owns recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and employment compliance for our field and office teams, and is responsible for building the HR systems and processes that will carry the company through its next stage of growth.

The Human Resources Manager reports to the VP of Finance & Administration and works closely with the CEO, President, and operations leadership to make sure Matukat hires the right people, brings them into the company well, and supports them throughout their careers here. The position partners with supervisors and department leaders as a trusted resource on hiring, performance, policy, and the everyday questions that come with leading people.

This is a hands-on role in a company that puts people first.

Key Responsibilities

1. Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

  • Leads full-cycle recruiting for field and office positions, from job description development through offer and acceptance.
  • Partners with hiring managers to define role requirements, interview plans, and candidate evaluation criteria.
  • Manages job postings, applicant tracking, sourcing, and candidate communication to deliver a professional, responsive candidate experience.
  • Builds relationships with trade schools, universities, industry associations, and other talent pipelines that support long-term hiring needs.
  • Supports headcount planning with leadership and maintains the organizational chart and job description library.
  • Prepares offer letters and coordinates pre-employment requirements.

2. Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Owns the onboarding process for all new hires, making sure every team member arrives with the equipment, accounts, training, and introductions they need to be productive.
  • Conducts new-hire orientation covering company history, culture, policies, benefits, and safety expectations.
  • Coordinates first-week plans with field and office leadership so new hires are set up for success from day one.
  • Checks in with new hires at 30 and 90 days and uses their feedback to improve the onboarding experience.
  • Manages offboarding, exit interviews, and knowledge transfer when employees leave.

3. Employee Relations & Culture

  • Serves as a trusted, approachable point of contact for employees at every level of the company.
  • Advises managers on performance conversations, coaching, corrective action, and documentation.
  • Investigates and resolves employee concerns promptly, fairly, and with discretion.
  • Supports the performance review process and helps managers deliver clear, useful feedback.
  • Strengthens Matukat’s people-first culture through recognition, company events, and consistent, clear communication.
  • Promotes an environment where people do right by each other, speak clearly, and hold themselves accountable.

4. Benefits & Compensation Administration

  • Administers health insurance, 401(k), PTO, and other benefit programs, including open enrollment, qualifying life events, and day-to-day employee questions.
  • Manages relationships with benefits brokers and carriers; evaluates plan options and renewals with leadership.
  • Maintains compensation structures and job descriptions; supports leadership with market data for pay decisions and offer development.
  • Partners with the Controller on payroll changes, benefit deductions, and reporting.
  • Administers leave programs, including Colorado FAMLI, paid sick leave, and other protected leave.

5. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensures compliance with federal and Colorado employment law, including wage and hour, pay transparency, leave, anti-discrimination, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Maintains the employee handbook, policies, and required workplace postings; communicates changes clearly to the team.
  • Manages I-9s, personnel files, and HR documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Partners with field leadership on workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work coordination, and OSHA recordkeeping support.
  • Prepares the company for the compliance obligations that come with growth, including FMLA and ACA reporting thresholds.

6. HR Systems & Process Development

  • Builds and documents scalable processes for recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and employee records.
  • Evaluates, implements, and administers HRIS, applicant tracking, and related tools that fit the company’s size and growth plans.
  • Develops HR reporting on headcount, turnover, time-to-hire, and retention to inform leadership decisions.
  • Standardizes job descriptions, career paths, and performance expectations across roles.
  • Continuously improves policies and processes based on feedback from the field and the office.

7. Training, Development & Leadership Partnership

  • Works with leadership to identify training needs and coordinates development programs for field and office staff.
  • Supports manager development, including training on hiring, feedback, and employee relations.
  • Helps build career pathways that give employees a clear picture of how to grow at Matukat.
  • Advises the executive team on organizational structure, staffing, and people-related risks and opportunities.
