The Residential Lending Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the residential lending team, ensuring the effective delivery of mortgage and home loan products to our members. This role drives production, maintains high service standards, and ensures compliance with all regulatory and internal policies.
The manager provides strategic direction, coaching, and performance management for loan officers and support staff, fostering a high-performing, member-focused culture. They monitor pipeline activity, manage risk, and ensure timely and accurate loan processing from application through closing.
In addition, the Residential Lending Manager collaborates with senior leadership to develop lending strategies, grow market share, and strengthen community and referral relationships. This role plays a key part in balancing business growth with sound credit practices and exceptional customer experience.
FUNCTIONS
• Responsible for member marketing of the Credit Union and knowledge of allservices offered to a degree that will enable answering questions or referring member for specific services.
• Responsible for the supervision of the Residential Lending Department including, but not limited to, training, performance, hiring, terminations and scheduling leave.
• Provide oversight of underwriting activities to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to established credit policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Partner with underwriting staff to support sound loan structuring and decision-making.
• Responsible for ensuring that all evaluations and appraisals are ordered and reviewed in compliance with all policy, government, regulatory, investor rules and participation guidelines.
• Responsible for loan closing controls, including obtaining and reviewing documents required and preparation of closing documentation.
• Responsible for the controls of checks being disbursed and wire transfers for all closings.
• Responsible for ensuring that all loan documents are appropriately recorded, releases and discharges received as required, and final insurance policies (hazard, flood and title) are received and appropriate to the loan terms following the closings.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key vendors and third-party partners, including appraisers, title companies, and settlement agents, to ensure service quality, compliance, and efficiency.
• Manage and maintain relationships with investors and secondary market partners, ensuring adherence to delivery requirements, optimizing execution, and identifying opportunities to improve loan sale performance and profitability.
• Engage with community organizations, real estate professionals, and local stakeholders to support the Credit Union’s presence in the market, promote homeownership opportunities, and strengthen community relationships.
• Responsible for creating reports and analysis which will be appropriate to the orderly and effective management of the department.
PREREQUISITES FOR THIS POSITION
• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or economics is preferred. Equivalent work experience and knowledge may be substituted.
• Minimum Experience: 5-7 years mortgage lending experience to include deep knowledge of processing, underwriting, compliance, and loan closing functions with 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Working knowledge of portfolio lending required. Experience in dealing with residential secondary markets. Experience in accounting and financial management.
• Personal Characteristics and Skills: Must demonstrate integrity in all work efforts and a sincere interest in Credit Union members, and respect for other employees. Must be proficient in computer skills and relevant software. Must be capable of creating, implementing and managing business systems. Must maintain continuing knowledge of lending regulations and business developments. Strong cooperative leadership skills must be exhibited. A strong work ethic is required.

Frequent performing basic numeric calculations, as well as writing and reading. Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, i.e., robbery. This position may require extended or irregular hours. Continuous standing and/or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional bending, squatting or kneeling to reach supplies on ground level. Occasional reaching above shoulder level to reach supplies overhead. Continuous use of hands in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting/turning of wrist; finger dexterity to perform various accounting duties such as a ten key calculator, typing, and entering data into the computer system.
