Role purpose
MAI seeks House Parents to serve as trusted adult leaders within our residential community. House Parents create a structured, supportive, and engaging home environment for student-athletes who live on campus, guiding them through the challenges and opportunities of adolescence while away from home.
This role combines elements of mentorship, pastoral care, supervision, and community leadership. House Parents serve as daily role models and advocates for students’ well-being while working closely with academic leaders, coaches, health staff, and families to support each student’s development.
The ideal candidate brings maturity, empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to helping young people thrive in a high-performance environment. This role requires both warmth and clear expectations, creating a residential culture that balances independence with accountability.
Key responsibilities
Student Well-Being & Pastoral Care
- Provide a safe, supportive “home-away-from-home” environment that promotes the emotional, social,
and personal development of residential students.
- Build trusting relationships with students based on respect, empathy, and clear expectations.
- Monitor student well-being and provide pastoral guidance, offering support during challenges related to academics, athletics, or personal development.
- Actively listen to students and provide counsel using a nonjudgmental and supportive approach.
- Identify concerns related to student welfare and collaborate with school leadership, student deans, and health staff when appropriate.
Residential Community Leadership
- Supervise residential life within the boarding house, maintaining clear expectations around behavior, manners, and community standards.
- Foster a positive, inclusive house culture where students feel connected and supported.
- Organize and coordinate house meetings, activities, and community-building experiences.
- Help students develop life skills, including personal responsibility, time management, and respect for shared spaces.
- Encourage healthy routines that support academic focus, athletic training, and personal well-being.
Safety, Supervision & Risk Management
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all boarding students through consistent supervision and clear safeguarding practices.
- Maintain appropriate discipline and enforce residential policies in alignment with school expectations.
- Respond calmly and effectively during crises or emergencies, using sound judgment and established protocols.
- Support the Residential Life Leadership Team in maintaining health and safety standards within the boarding environment.
Collaboration with the School Community
- Work closely with academic leaders, coaches, and residential life staff to support each student’s holistic development.
- Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding student well-being and residential life matters when appropriate.
- Support the school’s broader extracurricular and community activities, including athletic fixtures, performances, and school events.
- Participate actively as a member of the residential life team, contributing to the continuous improvement of the boarding program.
Residential Operations & Administration
- Assist with administrative responsibilities, including attendance tracking, residential schedules, activity planning, and travel arrangements.
- Maintain accurate records related to student presence, permissions, and residential participation.
- Help coordinate outings, school trips, and recreational activities for boarding students.
- Support the effective use and care of boarding facilities and shared resources.

Qualifications

- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfort using basic administrative and communication technology.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range, as a full time equivalent, is $65,000 depending on experience. Benefits for eligible roles include medical, life insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, and more.
