You will be responsible for improving usability workflows, reducing risks for patients and staff, and ensuring consistency with our brand and design standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement digital user interfaces using the Surgical Operating Unit’s design system for complex medical devices.
  • Conduct and participate in user research activities, translating findings into actionable design solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Research & Technology to make informed product feature and functionality decisions.
  • Partner with agile teams, working closely with software engineers, copywriters, and UX designers.
  • Contribute to concept development for new products and platforms using systems thinking and user-centered design methodologies.
  • Conceptualize and visualize product designs and interactions using Figma, creating digital prototypes with Figma or Principal.
  • Develop and refine wireframes, prototypes, style guides, and user flows, while communicating interaction concepts using Figma, Miro, and PowerPoint.
  • Produce detailed final design documentation to support engineering handoffs and design requirements across shared platforms (Jama, Jira, etc.).
  • Generate innovative ideas informed by design thinking, user research, heuristic evaluation, and accessibility standards.
  • Support the creation of technical documentation, including user manuals, IFUs, quick reference guides, and instructional content.

Top Technical Skills

  1. Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with sound technical judgment, leadership, and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across R&D, Marketing, Engineering, and Systems.
  2. Ability to visually present, communicate, and workshop design visions, research insights, and detailed designs using Figma, Miro, and Microsoft Office tools.
  3. Bonus: Familiarity with regulatory standards such as 21 CFR Part 820.30, IEC 62366-1, ANSI HE75, ISO 14971, and FDA usability guidance.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field (or equivalent experience/certification).
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years in UX Design, with at least 2 years in the medical device or related industry preferred. Proven track record as a UX lead for new product development.
  • Experience across all phases of the product development process, from research and concept development to front-end design, prototyping, user testing, and refinement.
  • Hands-on experience creating wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, and user flows with a strong problem-solving mindset.
  • Skilled in working with agile or scrum teams, balancing big-picture strategy with detailed product-level design.
  • Experience in designing interfaces for devices or large systems, including proof-of-concept modeling to communicate design intent.
  • Familiarity with front-end languages (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) is a plus.
