Job Summary
The Estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates for customer projects based on the required scope of work. This includes completing quantity takeoffs, coordinating with the project management team and field supervisors, and researching material, labor, and equipment pricing during the bidding process. The Estimator prepares accurate bid estimates and ensures scope-of-work details are clearly communicated to the operations team.
Duties/Responsibilities
Performs drawing and field quantity takeoffs to prepare project bids
Attends bid walks to verify scope of work and calculate quantities/costs for construction items used in project estimates
Researches material, labor, and equipment pricing for cost estimates and to provide recommendations to customers and leadership
Builds estimates using software such as Excel and STACK and creates bid proposal packages
Records leads, contact details, and bid information in customer relationship management (CRM) software, such as HubSpot
Maintains customer correspondence and job documentation in job files, estimating software and CRM
Coordinates with the project management team to communicate scope-of-work details to operations, field supervisors, and office staff
Responds promptly and professionally to inquiries from employees, clients, regulatory agencies, and inspectors
Regularly seeks out additional bid opportunities from new and existing customers
Compares actual project costs to estimates to develop production rates and improve estimating
Reviews project budgets, profitability, and goals with the operations team as needed
Supports project management by providing cost information and developing change-order estimates throughout project phases
Assesses Vendor Qualifications, Capabilities, Resources, And Financial Stability
Analyzes and seeks input on equipment, systems, and processes to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs. This includes preparing periodic progress and cost reports
Ensures compliance with applicable codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies
Collaborates with operations to identify and troubleshoot problems
Performs other related duties as assigned

Proven ability to perform field and drawing take-offs
Ability to read and decipher blueprints

Demonstrated willingness to learn and provide suggestions for improvement, efficiency and cost savings
Self-starter with a willingness to learn and wear multiple hats within the organization
Ability to multi-task and work independently on assigned tasks
Team player who demonstrates initiative and personal accountability
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding customer and company proprietary information
Knowledge of construction and coatings experience and OSHA safety guidelines preferred
Knowledge of industrial (natural gas, manufacturing, power generation, chemical, sports facilities, water treatment, etc.) and commercial markets (retail & restaurant, hotels and multi-family, recreational facilities, airports, etc.) preferred
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline is preferred. Equivalent work experience and education will be considered.
At least 2-5 years’ experience in estimating, project management, engineering, systems design, or another related field.
Valid U.S. Driver’s License
Authorized to work in the US
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel 25-50%
