Automotive Technician
Purpose & Objective
The Automotive Technician plays one of the most important roles within Master Auto Group. Technicians are responsible for professionally diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer vehicles while ensuring every repair is completed with excellence, integrity, precision, and safety.
Beyond performing repairs, every technician is responsible for conducting a comprehensive inspection on every assigned vehicle. The purpose of these inspections is to identify any safety concerns, maintenance needs, or additional repairs that would improve the reliability, performance, and longevity of the customer's vehicle.
Technicians are expected to prepare complete and accurate repair estimates based on their inspection findings. These estimates are then provided to the Service Advisor, who presents the recommendations to the customer and obtains authorization. This partnership between the technician and service advisor is essential to delivering an exceptional customer experience while achieving the company's sales and service goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform Repairs and Maintenance
- Diagnose, repair, and service customer vehicles according to manufacturer specifications and Master Auto Group quality standards.
- Complete all assigned work accurately, efficiently, and safely.
- Follow all repair procedures without shortcuts.
- Verify all repairs are completed correctly before releasing the vehicle.
Perform Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections
Every vehicle entering the shop must receive a complete inspection.
Technicians are expected to inspect all major vehicle systems, including but not limited to:
- Brakes
- Suspension
- Steering
- Tires
- Cooling System
- Engine
- Transmission
- Electrical System
- Air Conditioning
- Battery & Charging System
- Belts & Hoses
- Fluids
- Filters
- Exterior Lighting
- Safety Components
Inspection findings must accurately reflect the condition of the vehicle.
Write Your Own Repair Quotes
Technicians are responsible for writing their own repair recommendations following every inspection.
Each estimate should include:
- Failed components
- Worn components
- Preventive maintenance recommendations
- Parts required
- Labor operations
- Labor times
- Technician notes explaining the findings
The estimate must then be submitted promptly to the Service Advisor for presentation to the customer.
Technicians should never assume someone else will create the estimate.
Partner with the Service Advisor
Technicians and Service Advisors operate as one team.
Technicians are expected to:
- Clearly communicate inspection findings.
- Answer technical questions from advisors.
- Assist in explaining repairs to customers when requested.
- Notify advisors immediately of additional repairs discovered during service.
- Update estimates whenever additional repairs are found.
Quality of Work
Every repair completed must meet Master Auto Group quality standards.
Technicians are expected to:

- Properly disposing of fluids and waste.
- Returning shop equipment after use.
- Maintaining a professional workspace.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates must possess:
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional automotive repair experience.
- Strong understanding of passenger vehicle systems.
- Advanced diagnostic knowledge using scan tools, diagnostic flow charts, testing equipment, and service information.
- Ability to accurately diagnose customer concerns.
- Ability to perform mechanical, electrical, drivability, and maintenance repairs.
- Knowledge of manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedules.
- Ability to perform thorough vehicle inspections.
- Ability to create accurate repair estimates using the shop management system.
- Ability to use computers, tablets, scan tools, repair information software, and digital vehicle inspection software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, reach overhead, and perform repetitive physical movements required in automotive repair.
