The operator will work in and around active heavy machinery and possibly around live traffic. Must be willing to help with other duties as assigned. This is a safety sensitive position.

- Monitoring and adjusting machinery to ensure proper operation
- Inspecting machinery for any malfunctions or required repairs
- Ensuring that the laid pavement is smooth, even, and finished to the correct depth
- Guiding other construction crew members in using hand tools to spread, smooth, and level asphalt or concrete
- Keeping the machine hopper full of mixed asphalt or concrete
- Setting up and tearing down equipment before and after paving operations
- Adhering to safety protocols and workplace policies
