Summary
The role of the Global Developmental Delay/Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Specialized Resource Teacher is to provide direct implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to deliver targeted academic instruction alongside intentional social, emotional, and behavioral supports. By embedding evidence-based interventions like Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and systematic data collection into daily routines, the teacher establishes a data-driven foundation to reduce learning barriers and foster independence. Strategic leadership and collaboration with board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs), ABA technicians, related service providers, and general education colleagues ensures that each student's unique academic, communication, and behavior-support needs are met consistently across all learning environments. Ultimately, the teacher serves as a vital bridge between home and school, partnering with families to create a unified network that promotes both the academic success and personal well-being of every learner.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters in related field.
MA DESE Teacher, Severe Disabilities, All Levels
Experience utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies to create supportive, data driver interventions for students navigating social,emotional, and behavioral learning challenges.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Teaching Experience Preschool Through Grade 2 Is Preferred.
High level of organization to manage caseloads, document student progress, and develop/manage schedules.
Knowledge of the wide range of disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders and students with social/emotional/behavioral health needs.
Authority: Reports to the Building Principal and Director of Student Support Services

Professional Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
Provide direct specialized instruction as mandated by student IEPs coordination of consultation with team members.
Provide consistent reinforcement to learning, and assess students as necessary to determine their level of functioning.
Adapt and modify general education curricula to ensure accessibility and progress for all learners.
Conduct learning assessments to identify specific disabilities,identify impact of disabilities, and evaluate progress.
Complete state-mandated testing (MCAS) or alternative assessments (MCAS-Alt), as required.
Develop comprehensive IEPs with measurable goals and objectives aligned with individual student data and needs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students with Global Developmental Delays, Autism, and social/emotional/behavioral health disabilities, ensuring all services are implemented and compliance standards are met.
Serve as liaison for students whose primary diagnosis/concern is Autism, Global Developmental Delays, and social/emotional/behavioral health realm, between the parents, team members and Director of Student Support Services.
Write detailed progress reports, maintain accurate student records, and collaborate with inclusion teachers on grading.
Develops and implements individualized lesson plans designed to meet specific IEP goals and objectives.
Attend team meetings to discuss student academic needs, student progress, and program development
Provide ABA technicians and educators with guidance, professional development, and specific strategies for academic and behavioral success.
Assist staff in implementing positive behavior reinforcement and determining appropriate consequences in accordance with the Norfolk Student Discipline Policy.
Collaborate with ABA technicians to maintain an instructional environment conducive to learning for students with diverse needs.
Maintain open, regular communication with parents to ensure consistency between environments including participation in parent/teacher conferences and home/school communication logs.
Provide parents with specific strategies and training to support their child’s learning at home.
Participate in professional development to enhance program quality and stay current with best practices.
Manage supply requisitions and uphold all Norfolk School Committee Policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
Evaluation: Evaluation to be performed annually in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the NTA and Norfolk School Committee and pertinent regulations and statutes.
Physical Working Conditions
Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building.
Must be able to assist students who have physical disabilities.
The majority of the workday is spent indoors, however also must be able to spend time outdoors for outdoor activities, recess, fire drills and special activities.
