Biomechanical Analyst
- (3219041)The Mass General Brigham Center for Sports Medicine is an exciting new initiative to create a nationally recognized and regional leader in sports medicine and combines broad existing set of sports medicine capabilities across the MGB system (AMCs, community hospitals, physical therapy/rehab network) with a targeted incremental investment program to expand and grow the business. To propel this work, the initiative will launch a state-of-the-art Center for Sports Performance and Research (CSPaR). This multi-functional center will offer performance evaluation, training (for injury prevention and return to play), cutting edge research, and other services for athletes.
The Biomechanical Analyst will be responsible for maintaining and utilizing motion capture and strength and conditioning evaluative technology to help data capture and reporting of biomechanical evaluations for the athletes who visit train at the CSPaR.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Sports Performance and Director of Sports Performance Research, will manage and assist in the use of state-of-the-art motion capture and strength and conditioning evaluative technology. Program automated evaluative tools and create reports of biomechanical data. Assist in research projects along with direct client interactions.
Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop data analysis programs in Visual 3D, Matlab
- Create templates and models in the Performance Center’s Vicon motion analysis software (Nexus)
- Create analysis templates in Visual 3D motion analysis software
- Perform data collection (Theia, Vicon Nexus program)
- Communicate with Vendors regarding maintenance and system issues
- Maintain back up of data
- Maintain Windows and Apple computers for data analysis
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Required: Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Bioengineering or related field.
- 2 years or more experience in related field preferred, although new graduates are encouraged to apply. Experience of internship of 3 months or greater time in a motion capture environment is preferred
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
- The selected candidate for this position will have strong computer programming skills and some experience in gait and/or motion analysis programming and modeling.
- Working knowledge of Matlab is required
- Working knowledge of Visual 3D is helpful
- Ability to maintain clear documentation of programming notes is required
- Desire to write manuscripts
- Experience in research studies and preparation of publications is preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A strong candidate for this position will have experience in gait and or motion analysis programming and modeling. Experience in research studies and preparation of publications is a plus. A successful applicant will participate in motion analysis for clinical and research evaluations of athletes of all ages as well as persons with chronic orthopaedic problems. Experience and interest in sports and motion analysis are preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily based in the performance center to administer therapy as necessary
- Standard office conditions to perform administrative work and coordination with others
The work may require the lifting of heavy objects and patients, as well as exposure to potentially infective material. Work requires contact with needles and other sharp instruments, electric-cautery devices, monitoring devices, and other state-of-the-art equipment. Prolonged standing can be expected. Walking to and from the patient care units can be expected. Hazards present from exposure to combustible anesthetic or disinfecting agents are minimized when safety precautions are strictly adhered
