Job Summary
The Operating Room Evening Flow Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing patient flow within a highly complex, high-volume surgical environment.
This leadership role ensures efficient utilization of operating room resources, coordinates patient movement, and supports real-time decision-making across a 46-room OR with over 27,000 annual cases.
Working closely with anesthesia, nursing leadership, surgeons, and support teams, this position plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency, controlling costs, and supporting high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate perioperative patient flow from pre-op, ED, or inpatient units through surgery and recovery
- Collaborate with nursing leadership, anesthesia, surgeons, and hospital administration to optimize OR utilization
- Monitor and manage the daily OR schedule to maximize efficiency and minimize delays
- Track, communicate, and address delays, trends, and operational challenges
- Align staffing levels and skill mix with surgical volume and acuity throughout the shift
- Ensure optimal resource utilization while minimizing overtime and excess staffing
- Establish and maintain relationships with ancillary departments (Pre-Op, PACU, ICU)
- Monitor accuracy of EPIC scheduling system and coordinate with IT as needed
- Plan and secure additional staffing resources when necessary, considering budget impact
- Enforce departmental policies and support compliance
- Promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment and strong staff engagement
- Serve as escalation point for operational issues and decision-making
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required)
- Master’s degree in healthcare, operations, or related field (preferred)
Experience
- Previous operating room charge nurse experience (required)
- Strong understanding of perioperative patient flow and OR operations
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent analytical and organizational abilities
- Strong decision-making skills in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Ability to prioritize patients and resources based on clinical urgency
- Experience negotiating and coordinating with physicians and staff
- Ability to manage staffing fairly and effectively
- Proficiency with EPIC or similar systems
- Ability to work under high-stress conditions while maintaining quality standards

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $81,473.60 – $157,851.20 annually
