Position Title: Middle School Assistant Principal/Middle School Athletic Director

Location: Mason Middle School

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Job Summary: The Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director supports the overall administration of the school while fostering a positive, safe, and academically focused learning environment. In collaboration with the principal, this role provides leadership in student discipline, staff supervision, and school operations. Additionally, the position oversees all aspects of the middle school athletic program, promoting sportsmanship, student participation, and fostering staff and community relations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated educational leadership.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional strategies and the ability to support teachers in improving instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current educational topics including: School Improvement, Multiple Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS), Student Leadership Development, and Data Analysis.
  • Ability to interact positively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology to improve instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Possession of a school administrator certificate, or willingness to get one.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in school administration or related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Experience in middle school administration.
  • Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities.
  • Experience working in a Professional Learning Community.
  • Background in data usage to improve student learning.
  • Experience in evaluation and supervision of staff.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Knowledge/Experience with behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM).
  • Experience and knowledge in implementation of safety protocols (i.e. ALICE).
  • Knowledgeable in adolescent development and behavior.
  • Experience with facility operations.
  • Secondary teaching experience (Grades 6-12).
  • Athletic program administration experience.


Areas of Responsibility:

  • Primary administrator in charge of managing student discipline.
  • Primary administrator in charge of middle school athletics.
  • Partners with other administrators to establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Maintaining high standards of student conduct.
  • Supervises student attendance.
  • Assists the middle school principal in curriculum development and the improvement of instructional practices.
  • Support administrative team in coordination of school safety for the middle school.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and development in the profession.
  • Evaluates and counsels staff members, as assigned by the principal, according to district policy.
  • Communicates effectively with families and impacted staff members regarding student issues.
  • Serves as principal in absentia.
  • Within scope of assigned work, ensures compliance with all Board policies, administrative procedures, and laboragreements.
  • Lead athletics program, including: budget oversight, facility usage, transportation concerns, scheduling of contests, and staff/community relations
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of furnishings or equipment.
  • Work may take place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or office locations.


Schedule:
220 annual contracted work days

Salary Range: $102,232 - $116,995 Base Salary per the bargaining unit contract.
Additional Compensation: Additional $2,500 annually for the possession of an Education Specialist or Doctoral degree.
