Primary Function:

The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for patients during clinic hours.  During this time, the registered nurse is responsible for providing care, treatment and education through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.  The Registered Nurse will perform a wide variety of patient care activities for the clinic’s patients of all ages, including the administration of prescribed medications and treatments, education of patients and families and response to patient telephone calls.  These functions may be performed by written or verbal direction of a physician but not limited to direct supervision.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the nursing process by performing patient assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation both in-person and via telephone. Operates within the scope of practice and adheres to current standards of care. Accountable for meeting quality standards set by state, federal, and regulatory bodies.
  2. Accurately documents patient care in alignment with scope of practice and current standards, utilizing the electronic medical record (EMR), e-Prescribing system, and other EMRs to access imaging, laboratory results, procedure notes, and other pertinent records.
  3. Collaborates with physicians and healthcare teams to assess and prioritize patient and family needs, providing and coordinating appropriate care. Responsibilities may include patient and family education, coordinating care with other healthcare providers, fulfilling payer requirements, and assisting patients in obtaining prescribed treatments, therapies, and supplies. Ensures a high standard of customer satisfaction.
  4. Assists in patient flow management, including securing and stocking necessary supplies, preparing exam rooms and patients for examination, supporting providers during exams and procedures, performing point-of-care testing, EKGs, blood draws, bladder scans, and maintaining a clean and disinfected exam/treatment area and instruments after use.
  5. Adheres to all clinic policies and procedures, including but not limited to infection control, bloodborne pathogen protocols, chemical safety, laboratory standards, administrative policies, and corporate compliance guidelines.
  6. Contributes to the clinic’s financial and quality performance by maintaining efficiency and supporting cost-effective care delivery.
  7. Demonstrates teamwork and commitment to achieving department goals and objectives.
  8. Completes all other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion of an accredited School of Nursing with a Registered Nurse (RN) degree.
  2. Active, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of practice.
  3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  4. Proficiency in learning and utilizing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems within 60 days of implementation or hire.
  5. Ability to learn and effectively use the e-Prescribe system for medication ordering.
  6. Exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, staff, and the public.
  7. Proven ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  8. Capacity to excel in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  9. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  10. Ability to read, comprehend, and apply information in English for work procedures and professional communication.
  11. Proficient spelling and legible handwriting required for accurate documentation.
  12. Ability to engage professionally with a diverse range of personalities, including staff, patients, and external individuals.
  13. Must maintain a professional demeanor that positively represents the organization when addressing inquiries or interacting with colleagues, leadership, and the public.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

 

  1. Utilize a computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse for patient charting, data entry, and documentation.
  2. Perform a full range of body motions, including handling and lifting computer laptops, charts, and other necessary materials. Manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination are required for computer use, typing, and completing forms.
  3. Stand for extended periods on both hard and soft flooring surfaces.
  4. See and hear within a normal range with or without corrective measures.
  5. Function effectively under stressful conditions.
  6. Communicate professionally with individuals from diverse professional and social backgrounds, including those with communication disabilities or other challenges.
  7. Convey information clearly to individuals and groups through verbal, written, and telephone communication.
  8. Read and interpret documents in both print and digital formats in English. Recognizing forms, symbols, and figures to produce accurate final documentation is essential.
  9. Remain seated for moderate periods while engaging in conversations in person or over the phone.
  10. Move frequently throughout the facility between offices and work areas, often carrying files or printed materials.
  11. Risk exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials may be anticipated by the performance of the employee’s duties.  Skin, eye, mucous membranes contact with blood or potentially infectious material may be anticipated.
  12. Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift objects overhead as required.
  13. Occasionally lift and carry, reach overhead, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
