Primary Function:
The ED Tech/Registrar provides essential support in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, assisting medical professionals with patient care, clerical tasks, and maintaining a safe and organized environment. The ED tech/ Registrar plays a critical role in facilitating smooth operations within the emergency department by ensuring timely and accurate registration, assisting with patient needs, and supporting the healthcare team. Greets patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
Responsibilities:
- Complies with all Mason District Hospital policies/procedures.
- Performs all responsibilities and duties required as specific to the Emergency Department Scope of Service.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of patient assessment findings, and psychosocial responses to individual patient needs.
- Patient Registration and Intake
- Greet and register patients, collecting demographic, insurance, and medical information. With verification of insurance information and billing processes.
- Explain necessary forms to patients and their families prior to obtaining signed consent.
- Accurately enter patient data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Assists the Emergency Department RN to carry out the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Reports findings to the Emergency Department RN after evaluation of patient needs.
- Owns responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Keeps the emergency department clean and functional, maintains adequate restock departmental supplies
- Completes daily and weekly department checks, retires expired supplies
- Assists in safe efficient transport of patients within the ED or to other departments
- Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to seek out solutions.
- Is responsible for patient and staff safety through adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting safety hazards.
- Effectively communicates/collaborates with staff, visitors, and families to promote a healthy and healing work environment.
- Conducts individualized patient triage and reports findings to the RN and Physician, prioritizing collection of data based on individual needs and condition.
- Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
- Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology. Ensuring that medical equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained
- Monitoring vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, pulse ox and pain scale.
- Obtain Height and weight for all adult and pediatric patients
- Works directly with the Registered nurse and physician, assisting/ chaperoning during exams, diagnostic testing, specimen collection and treatments.
- Advocates patient rights and maintains knowledge in mandated reporting
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift, and as needed based on individualized patient assessment.
- Maintains competency in emergency care by participating in continuing education programs and meets state/ facility specific requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to manage delegated tasks with efficiency.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current CNA, EMT-B, EMT-I, or Paramedic licensure
- Current Healthcare provider CPR certification or currently enrolled in training.

- Ability to complete job duties during stressful situations
- Demonstrates effective and professional communication skills
- Ability to complete departmental orientation/training within 4 weeks of start date (Each individual is responsible for making his/her needs known)
- Willing to receive on the job training on hospital policies and procedures with completion of assignments by the due date.
- Completes required New Employee Orientation as directed by Mason District Hospital.
- Must be able to perform basic computer proficiency
- Must be punctual and dependable when arriving for assigned shifts.
