Financial Controller
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid/On-Site)
Compensation: $160,000 – $225,000 base salary bonus
Overview
A well-established, Boston-based investment management firm is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee the firm’s financial operations and reporting infrastructure. The firm manages a diversified platform of equity, fixed income, balanced, and private market strategies on behalf of institutional and high-net-worth clients. This role will serve as a key member of the finance function, responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting the continued growth of the organization through scalable financial systems and processes.
Position Overview
The Financial Controller will lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations while ensuring accurate, timely reporting and compliance with regulatory standards. This individual will partner closely with senior leadership to provide financial insights, manage liquidity, and support strategic decision-making across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee core financial operations including general ledger, billing, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Calculate and administer incentive compensation and commission structures
- Prepare and deliver financial reporting and analysis to support business performance and strategic planning
- Monitor firm liquidity, capital allocation, and overall balance sheet management
- Develop and enhance financial systems, workflows, and controls to support a growing organization
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements, including oversight of internal controls
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and external partners on financial matters
Qualifications
- 7 years of accounting experience, ideally within investment management or broader financial services
- Strong understanding of asset management business models, including revenue recognition and expense structures
- Experience with financial reporting and analysis in a regulated environment
- Ability to work across multiple entities and support complex organizational structures
- Familiarity with portfolio accounting or financial systems (e.g., Ridgeline, Sage, or similar platforms)
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- CPA or public accounting background is a plus
