Description / Summary of Duties:
Applications are invited for the Head VALORANT Coach position at Marywood University.
The Head VALORANT Coach is responsible for coaching the coed VALORANT team and achieving competitive success. This involves a variety of coaching-related tasks including but not limited to: assisting with recruiting, player health and conditioning, practice and scrimmage planning and implementation, skill development, scheduling, fundraising, and summer camp assistance. Additional responsibilities will include working with the Director of Esports to fulfill
any obligations for sports information regarding the team as well as coordinating player development tracking.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all coaching duties in the role as Head Coach (refer to Coaches Handbook for responsibilities).
- Promote values of academics, sportsmanship, and life values to the VALORANT team members and all student-athletes in Esports and Athletics.
- Attain competitive success. This team/these teams will be defined and treated as varsity sports.
- Assist the Director of Esports with recruitment efforts.
- Formulate and implement practice plans and conduct multiple in-season practice sessions.
- Represent the Department of Athletics and Recreation in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
- Remain in consistent contact and communication with the Director of Esports to inform him of team status, incidents, needs, etc.
- Be involved as needed in all Department programs and events.
- Create development and refinement off-season conditioning programs for team members on an annual basis. Ensure that team members follow such programs on a year-round basis.
- Maintain compliance with all University policies and procedures including but not limited to: Amorous Relations Policy, Employee Handbook, Coach’s Handbook, etc.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Esports and/or Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Requirements:
The preferred applicant will have:
- Experience working with collegiate-level students and student-athletes
- Prior coaching experience, prior esports coaching preferred
- At minimum a deep understanding of the game with relation to meta, meta shifts, theory crafting, team compositions, training methods to improve, and micro and macro play
- General knowledge of intercollegiate athletics
- Strong emotional intelligence, planning skills, and organizational abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Competency with esports and general technological resources and equipment
- Local preferred but able to be done remotely
- Ability to work nights for competition and flexible practice scheduling
