What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist II (Eligibility Determination Unit) position at Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)?
This position is responsible for reviewing applications to determine eligibility or qualification for vocational rehabilitation services or Pre-Employment Transition Services (PreETS). This includes conducting interviews, verification of personal information, gathering and evaluating medical, educational, and vocational records, and application of federal and state laws and regulations.
Position Duties Include
Experience: Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science-related field or one year of professional experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist I providing rehabilitation counseling or vocational evaluation services to clients with physical or behavioral disabilities, or teaching services to clients with partial or total visual impairment.
Note: A master's degree and one year of experience in a behavioral or social science-related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). - Manage referrals including verification of consumer information
- Conduct initial interviews within the federally required timeframe
- Provide guidance to consumers as to different types of cases and make recommendations as to the most appropriate type
- Ensure all required application documentation is provided and attached or available in the electronic case management system (AWARE)
- Request and compile documentation required for eligibility determination
- Review and evaluate medical, vocational, educational, and other pertinent consumer records
- Apply federal/state regulations, as well as DORS policies and procedures, regarding eligibility for vocational rehabilitation or PreETS programs
