Position Summary-Armed Security Guard
The Armed Security Guard is responsible for safeguarding personnel, visitors, and property through active security enforcement, emergency response, and deterrence. This role requires the lawful carrying and use of firearms, situational awareness, and the ability to respond effectively to high-risk incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible armed security presence to deter criminal activity
- Monitor and patrol assigned areas, including buildings, grounds, and parking facilities
- Control access by screening visitors, verifying identification, and managing entry points
- Respond to emergencies including disturbances, medical incidents, and active threats
- Detain individuals when necessary until law enforcement arrives
- Conduct security screenings (metal detectors, bag checks, etc.)
- Write detailed incident and daily activity reports
- Enforce facility rules, policies, and safety procedures
- Assist staff and visitors with directions and general support
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and response activities
- Maintain communication with supervisors and local authorities
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in military, law enforcement, or security services
- Valid Maryland Security Guard License
- Valid Maryland State Police Firearms Certification
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to carry and responsibly use firearms and non-lethal devices
- Strong judgment and ability to respond under pressure
