Maryknoll Mission Association of the Faithful supports a global community of missioners and the operations that make that mission possible. Our Finance team keeps the organization's accounting, investments, and donor-supported programs running accurately and on schedule — work that directly enables missioners serving around the world.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our Finance Department. In this role, you'll own accounts payable and ACH/wire processing, support month-end close, and help maintain accurate records across our general ledger, investment accounts, and missioner/employee expense reporting. This is a great fit for someone early in their accounting career who wants hands-on, varied experience within a mission-driven nonprofit.
What You'll Do
- Process accounts payable: review and code invoices, obtain W-9s, generate and mail checks, and post AP journals.
- Process ACH transfers and initiate wire transfers, including regional reimbursement payments, and record related journal entries.
- Review and approve staff and missioner expense reports, reconcile them to the business credit card, and process reimbursements.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including accounts payable, accrued expenses, deferred revenue, and travel advances, among others.
- Support month-end close: journal entries, account reconciliations, and year-end accruals.
- Maintain records and reporting for Foundation and Trust investment accounts, including monthly reconciliations.
- Prepare and file annual 1099s and 1096, and assist with the annual audit and budget process.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Accounting or Finance.
- At least 2 years of professional accounting experience.
- Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong numerical accuracy, organization, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
- Clear written communication and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- A high degree of discretion and comfort handling confidential financial information.
