Job Summary
Supervises and directs team responsible for the physical protection of Company personnel and assets and provides optimum security services by providing guidance, training, development, and bi-annual performance evaluations of team members. Acts as liaison with and assists outside law enforcement, fire/rescue personnel and emergency medical services present on Mary Kay properties. Functions as Incident Commander during emergency situations. Enforces procedures to secure the Company’s facilities and prevent access by unauthorized persons. Supports Special Events as needed (i.e. Seminar, Leadership, MK5K). Ensures required departmental special assignments are completed and documented for audit by private, city, state and federal agencies. Ensures Private Security Bureau rule compliance through periodic inspections of uniform requirements and carrying of proper credentials. Provides backup support for company special events Seminar, Leadership and incentive trips. Provides personal protection duties as needed to support executives, independent sales forces members, and employees.
About the Role
- Supervises and directs team responsible for the physical protection of Company personnel and assets and provides optimum security services by providing guidance, training, development, motivation, counsel and coaching, and bi-annual performance evaluations of team members, including Protective Services Officers and support staff, to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the shift operation in the protection of Company property and personnel. Keeps manager apprised of critical performance or personnel-related issues. Identifies training needs of staff and works closely with Training Specialist to develop appropriate training programs. Creates schedules and approves timecards, requests for personal time, vacation and floating holidays. Tracks employee attendance and provides feedback as needed. Oversees employees and security contractors at Branch locations, including hiring, training and providing direction. Conducts physical security audits and interfaces with security personnel assigned to site.
- Recommends and enforces standard operating procedures relating to security programs while ensuring consistency across all shifts. Implements and maintains measures to limit/prevent the potential for illegal activities such as theft or employee misconduct. Demonstrates appropriate application of authority that is expected of Protective Services. Participates in and supervises internal investigations as required involving theft or misconduct. Keeps manager apprised of critical investigations and exercises extreme confidentiality, diligence, diplomacy and tact while pursuing
investigation. Prepares appropriate documentation for records purposes and management’s review as well as recommendations. Partners with HR as appropriate. - Manages budgetary responsibilities totaling $100k. Maintains tight controls relative to overtime expenditures.
- Ensures required departmental, shift specific special assignments are managed, completed and documented for audit by private, city, state and federal agencies, including, but not limited to, the following Protective Services’ programs: Locks and Keys, Fire Protection Inspections, Proprietary Data Destruction, Medical Waste Disposal, and OSHA’s Voluntary Participation Program.
- Acts as a liaison with and assists outside law enforcement officials, fire officials, and emergency medical personnel present on Mary Kay properties to aid them in the expeditious execution of their duties and responsibilities. Functions as Incident Commander during emergency situations.
- Provides operational oversight of physical security for special events involving the sales force and employees such as Seminar, Leadership, MK5K and Sales Force events Provides personal protection duties as needed to support executives, independent sales forces members, and employees.
- Ensures the regulation of access to Dallas facilities and the control of traffic flow to facilitate optimum protection for the Company and employees. Enforces procedures to secure the Company’s facilities and prevent access by unauthorized persons. Liaises with Distribution Center staff to answer questions regarding alarm systems or other security-related questions and recommends enhancements to existing security operations. Ensures compliance of parking regulations and other security policies and procedures to ensure safety and protection. Interfaces daily with all Company
employees to enforce and explain established policies and procedures such as parking regulations. Refers policy interpretations to Operations Manager as needed. - Ensures officers comply with all rules and regulations stipulated by the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Private Security Program (“PSP”). Conducts regular audits of officer uniform requirements and possession of required PSP credentials.
- This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.
Skills & Experience
Experience: 3 years
Education: Bachelor/University Degree
Additional Skills & Abilities
- Must possess full knowledge of laws on searches, seizures, conspiracies and arrests for all domestic locations in which Mary Kay has operations.
- Supervisory and leadership skills, as well as knowledge of safety issues and physical, personnel and information security are required.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Security Officer’s Commission to carry a weapon. In addition, must be eligible to obtain Personal Protection Authorization and License to Carry permit to carry a concealed weapon in plain clothes. Job also requires a minimum of an Emergency Care Attendant (ECA) certification of the State of Texas or be able to actively pursue one.
- Must possess ingenuity, resourcefulness and originality for successfully investigating complex cases and for detecting and eradicating criminal operations.
- Verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. Must also possess excellent interpersonal skills in order to positively supervise and provide leadership to staff.
- Must have excellent people management skills to manage and develop staff and to solve human relations issues. Must have the skills required to effectively contribute to the efforts of other peers and upper management in a team environment to solve problems and or implement improvement.
- Must have a sense of urgency in order to proactively resolve unexpected issues as they arise.
- Must have the ability to utilize MS office products effectively.
Working Conditions
- May occasionally have to move quickly, perhaps for long distances; stand for long periods of time, possibly in extreme weather conditions; lift and move an adult to safety or for care; and routinely work long hours.
- May involve occasional risk to personal safety due to criminal activity or dangerous situations.
