What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Custodial Park Team Member position at Martinsburg Berkeley County Parks and Recreation?
SUMMARY:
This is a seasonal position that begins in April and ends on September 20, 2026, with work hours varying 32-40 hours per week and includes weekends and evenings. The typical schedule is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The location for this position covers all MBC parks.
NOTE: This is a seasonal position to develop and acquire additional skills and could lead to permanent future employment opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license and dependable daily transportation
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be available to work weekends and evenings
- Typical schedule is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday with day and evening hours
- Capable of climbing stairs, ladders, etc., carrying reasonable loads (up to 50 lbs.), operating gas-powered equipment, and other manual tasks as well as ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions as required to maintain buildings in first-class condition
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with minimal supervision and with or without reasonable accommodations
- Previous experience in custodial and/or maintenance work
- Ability to work efficiently and independently on a regular basis
- Ability to follow directions and positively respond to feedback from manager
- Ability to read and follow technical directions
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Clean and care for park grounds and facilities
- Collect and remove trash
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, pool houses, pavilions, and indoor facilities
- Work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks
- Move materials, load and unload trucks (items up to 50 lbs.)
- Perform general clean-up work inside and outdoors using hand and machine tools.
- Perform general maintenance tasks including raking, use of leaf blower, mulching, weeding, trash pick-up, etc.
- Assist maintenance and operations staff in the performance of their duties.
- Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all park patrons and public you encounter during your shift
- Act as a point of contact for patrons while working in the parks
- Other duties as assigned
