Martin’s Steel Works is a growing structural steel and miscellaneous metals contractor specializing in commercial and industrial projects. We are actively bidding and executing multi-million-dollar projects throughout Northern California.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator capable of bidding large-scale structural and miscellaneous metals projects from start to finish — including both shop fabrication and field installation.
This role requires someone who understands the full lifecycle of steel projects, from drawings to execution, and can confidently bid multi-million-dollar work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates
- Structural steel (beams, columns, etc.)
- Miscellaneous metals (stairs, rails, embeds, etc.)
- Shop fabrication and field erection
- Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specs
- Analyze drawings and project requirements
- Solicit and manage vendor pricing
- Build detailed cost breakdowns (labor, material, equipment)
- Develop complete proposals and bid packages
- Coordinate with project managers and field teams for execution input
- Track and manage multiple bids simultaneously
- Participate in scope reviews, value engineering, and post-bid meetings
Qualifications
- 5 years experience estimating structural steel projects
- Proven experience bidding $1M – $5M projects
- Strong knowledge of Shop vs. field labor production rates
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specs
- Experience with takeoff and estimating software (Tekla, Fabtrol, Bluebeam, etc. preferred)
- Strong understanding of costs, margins, and risk
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
