Job Summary
The YMCA Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for leading a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom for 3-year-old children. This position supports early learning, social-emotional growth, and school readiness through intentional teaching, play-based learning, and strong classroom structure. The Lead Teacher ensures compliance with Wisconsin DCF 251 Licensing Rules and maintains a high-quality early childhood environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities aligned with early childhood best practices and DCF 251 requirements
- Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom that supports exploration, independence, and positive behavior
- Support children’s social-emotional development using positive guidance and age-appropriate behavior strategies
- Maintain required licensing documentation, including daily records, assessments, and child observations
- Ensure classroom meets all health, safety, supervision, and sanitation standards per DCF 251
- Communicate regularly with families regarding child development, progress, and classroom updates
- Collaborate with co-teachers and program leadership to support consistent program quality
- Supervise children at all times in accordance with staff-to-child ratio and licensing requirements
Requirements
- Must meet DCF 251 Teacher qualifications (one of the following):
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; or
- Completion of a DCF-approved Assistant or Teacher Credential; or
- Equivalent education/experience as defined under DCF 251 licensing rules
- Experience working in early childhood education preferred (preschool-aged children)
- Strong understanding of child development and early learning best practices
- Ability to follow DCF 251 licensing rules, including supervision, safety, and documentation standards
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to create a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain as required)
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
