What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welding Instructor position at Marshall University?
The Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) is seeking applications for a Welding Instructor for our Advanced Welding Program in partnership with Mountwest Community & Technical College. The position is based in Huntington at our new Welding & Robotic Welding Training Center opening late Fall 2026. It will assist with both student and industry training mostly at our center but also on site with industry. We are seeking individuals open to teaching day and evening shifts.
The successful candidate will:
- Work with manufacturers to develop trainings that allow them to meet client specific welding skill needs.
- Provide training to clients – some travel required, but reimbursed to client sites.
- Provide training and certifications to individuals seeking skills enhancement.
- Assist with curriculum development and delivery for students enrolled in career skills programs.
- Assisting with student pre-testing, interviews and selection; developing lesson plans.
- Instructing students on a day-to-day basis and evaluating student performance.
- Maintaining records.
- Performing preventive maintenance on shop equipment; maintaining inventory of supplies.
- Working with the MAMC industry advisory council to maintain industry standards.
- Ensure partner and industry satisfaction.
- Lead in developing and implementing appropriate procedures and processes to ensure the latest technologies are available.
- Lead in maintaining a safe and clean facility, assuring all safety procedures are followed.
- Maintaining familiarity with new and developing manufacturing processes and materials; and
- Assisting industrial sector with advanced welding techniques to develop and enhance the region’s industrial capabilities.
- Maintain certifications in GTAW, SMAW, GMAW and other relevant certifications as required.
Location OTHR - Other Off-Campus Location Salary Range $60.000 - $70,000 - salary is commensurate on education, experience, and internal equity
Required Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in gas tungsten arc welding.
- AWS-GTAW, AWS SMAW, and AWS-GMAW or equivalent certification
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Associate Degree or higher preferred in related field
Experience
- Past experience training or teaching in industry or academia
- CWI or CWE certification
- OSHA certifications
- Robotic welding experience
