What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Financial Operations & Reporting position at Marshall University?
This role provides the reporting and reconciliation infrastructure that gives Athletics leadership an accurate picture of budget vs. actual vs. committed expenses and ensures financial transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, and resolved.
Financial Reporting & Budget Monitoring – Run and review regular budget and financial reports, providing leadership and coaches with visibility into budgets, actual expenditures, commitments, and available balances.

Open PO & Invoice Management – Monitor open purchase orders and outstanding invoices, reconcile activity, coordinate with Accounts Payable and Procurement, and ensure aging items are resolved and closed in a timely manner.
Account & Transaction Reconciliation – Regularly reconcile P-Card, purchasing, invoice, and deposit activity; identify posting or coding errors; and ensure corrections are completed accurately.
P-Card & Financial Transaction Administration – Manage P-Card reconciliation and monitoring, miscellaneous deposits, Big Green deposit entries, recruiting settlement/Dynamics entries, and hotel and rental car payments.
Financial Visibility & Analysis – Provide comprehensive reporting that shows what has been budgeted, spent, committed, invoiced, paid, and remains outstanding, including identifying variances and potential financial exposure.
Processes & Internal Controls – Develop consistent reporting, reconciliation, and tracking processes that improve accuracy, accountability, audit readiness, and overall financial controls within Athletics.
