The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences at Marshall University invites applications for a nine-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor level as (tenure-track with PhD Civil Engineering) or (non-tenure track with MS Civil Engineering).
Position Description. The faculty member in this position is required to teach lecture and laboratory courses within transportation engineering and related topics: supervise student projects; pursue scholarly activities and professional development; engage in academic and career mentoring of students; assist in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan; participate in university service; and engage in professional activities and organizations. The position is a 9-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with an MS degree in Civil Engineering will be considered for hiring as a non-tenure-track, teaching-focused faculty member. Candidates with a PhD degree in Civil Engineering will be considered for hiring as a tenure-track faculty member with teaching and research responsibilities.

Background The Department of Civil Engineering offers an ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering, and MS in Engineering with majors in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Management. The Department is part of the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (CECS) a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of faculty expertise and interests, and it is housed in the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex.
Marshall University is a co-educational public university in Huntington, West Virginia, founded in 1837 and named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. Marshall is West Virginia’s second-largest university and the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state, tracing its founding to more than 180 years ago. Marshall University has been accredited continuously as an institution of higher learning by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1928. It also has earned and maintains specialized accreditation status with 21 agencies responsible for evaluating and conferring specialty accreditation for educational programs and fields of study such as business, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, psychology, and teacher education speech-language pathology. Marshall’s offerings include more than 120 degree programs leading to associate, bachelor’s, master’s, first professional and doctoral degrees. In addition, the university provides certificate programs in a number of fields.
