What are the responsibilities and job description for the GTM Lead position at Marklo AI?
Marklo is building the revenue OS for Shopify brands. We help marketers and merchants connect the dots between merchandising, inventory, and marketing decisions — and use hindsight to make smarter forward plans. We're approaching launch, backed by Forerunner Ventures, and looking for a marketing leader who can help us build the early flywheel: awareness, credibility, inbound interest, and community momentum inside the Shopify ecosystem.
This is a founding role. You'll be the first dedicated sales and marketing hire, working directly with our founding team to shape how Marklo shows up in the market. That means you'll set the strategy and do the work — building our go-to-market engine from the ground up, turning early pilot wins into proof points, ensuring customer success and retention, and establishing Marklo as the trusted planning tool for Shopify brands.
If you want to define a category, not run an existing playbook, this is your role.
- Build Marklo's early go-to-market engine — positioning, messaging, inbound programs, and ecosystem relationships
- Develop partnerships with Shopify ecosystem influencers, agencies, and operators who can generate credibility and demand
- Turn pilot customers and early brand wins into testimonials, case studies, long term advocates, launch stories, and social proof that open doors
- Create programs that generate inbound interest ahead of sales scaling
- Launch grassroots community and field marketing efforts: workshops, events, ecosystem partnerships, and launch moments
- Work closely with the CEO and pilot partners to refine messaging based on what resonates in-market
- Help shape and own Marklo's positioning around our core value: hindsight, smarter planning, and better execution for Shopify brands
- Partner closely with early customers to ensure strong onboarding, product adoption, and measurable success
- Turn customer insights into feedback loops for product, positioning, and roadmap prioritization
- Build early customer success motions: onboarding flows, check-ins, success metrics, and retention playbooks
- Identify expansion opportunities within existing customers and help turn happy users into advocates
- You know the Shopify ecosystem well — how brands discover, evaluate, and adopt new tools there
- You've worked with other winning apps that sell into the Shopify eco system. You understand Shopify brands, ecommerce, and agencies
- You know how to build an early-stage flywheel through influencer relationships, agency networks, customer advocacy, and social proof — not just paid acquisition
- You're genuinely hands-on: strategy, content, events, partnerships, and demand gen all in one person
- You're comfortable working with ambiguity and driving early market traction
- You are AI obsessed and continually adopting new playbooks to win in the next wave
- You like being early. You want to define what the category looks like, not inherit someone else's framework
- You care deeply about customer outcomes, not just acquisition — you’ve owned or partnered closely with onboarding, retention, or customer success
- Early or growth-stage marketing at a company in the Shopify ecosystem
- Experience in ecommerce, martech, SaaS, or product-led growth
- Strong instinct for what earns attention and trust in the Shopify community
- Track record of operating as a generalist before building out a team
- Marklo has clear, resonant positioning and launch messaging in market
- Pilot customers have become credible, referenceable proof points
- A repeatable inbound engine is in place with growing velocity
- Active influencer, agency, and ecosystem relationships are driving awareness
- Marketing is generating enough qualified interest to support Marklo's first sales hires
- High retention and strong product adoption across pilot and early customers
- Early customers are not just references, but active champions and repeat users
- Clear feedback loops between customers, product, and go-to-market
- Ground-floor opportunity at a well-backed startup (Forerunner Ventures) targeting a 3M brand addressable market on Shopify
