Role Overview
What’s the Job? Ever see those high-tech cars driving themselves around town with the sensors on top? That could be your mobile office! We are looking for local AV Drivers in Detroit to join a massive project updating the world’s most advanced digital maps.
We are seeking reliable, locally-based drivers to support street-level imagery and autonomous vehicle operations. This position involves a mix of professional driving and depot-based technical tasks to ensure a specialized fleet is mission-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safe Vehicle Operation: Execute assigned routes on public roads safely and efficiently while operating advanced imaging and computing systems.
· Launch & Land Functions: Lead the deployment and return of autonomous vehicles, including system "fire-up" checks and staging for driverless operations.
· Fleet Care: Perform vehicle cleaning and disinfection, operational safety checks, and vehicle charging.
· Technical Compliance: Meet daily/weekly KM distance targets and maintain strict image quality standards.
· Ad Hoc Projects: Support various projects as needed, including AV testing and delivery initiatives.
· Reporting: Accurately and promptly complete all daily logs, progress reports, and documentation using a smartphone.
Requirements:
· Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
· Experience: Minimum of 5 years of driving experience with a clean U.S. license. Experience in depot or warehouse maintenance is preferred.
· Skills: Must have great attention to detail and the ability to adapt quickly to new technology and processes.
· Technical Aptitude: Adept at connecting and disconnecting laptops and high-capacity charging cables.
· Mandatory Testing: Must pass a Background Check (BGV), Drug Test, and a Defensive Driver Test conducted by field trainers.
· Substance Screening: Must pass a daily breathalyzer test before starting every shift.
Physical Requirements & Logistics:
· Mobility: Constant standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
· Lifting: Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
· Sensory: Must be able to hear safety horns and pre-shift announcements/safety messages.
· Shift Flexibility: Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnights.
