Position Overview

MPG was built on the foundation of Consulting, and our Consulting team serves as the strategic and commercial engine of the company. We partner with leading CPG manufacturers and retailers to solve complex business challenges and unlock growth opportunities across brand strategy, commercialization, sales, retail execution, innovation, and go-to-market transformation.

We are seeking a highly commercial, action-oriented consulting leader who can both shape strategic recommendations and personally build high-impact client deliverables. This role requires a combination of executive-level thinking, strong storytelling capabilities, deep CPG and retail expertise, and hands-on content creation.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading client conversations, synthesizing complex data into actionable insights, building compelling presentations independently, and leveraging AI-enabled tools to accelerate the quality, speed, and effectiveness of consulting outputs.

We are looking for someone who is resourceful, intellectually curious, and willing to “do the work” alongside the team. Someone who can independently create high-quality content, drive strategic thinking, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial consulting environment.

The Director, Consulting reports to the EVP, Consulting and plays a key role in shaping client impact, team capability, and MPG’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver Outstanding Work that Exceeds Client Expectations

  • Lead consulting engagements from start to finish, taking a lead role in defining project approach, deliverables, and timeline, and working with other Consultants, the analytical team, industry experts, and the Client Lead to deliver final recommendations.
  • Apply strategic and commercial problem-solving to develop actionable client recommendations grounded in data, insights, and marketplace realities.
  • Responsible for engaging the client at key points in the project to continue progressing the work and establishing a client relationship.
  • Serve as the project lead on engagements by framing client issues, developing analytical approaches, synthesizing insights, identifying implications, and building compelling executive-level narratives and presentations.
  • This role is expected to own the final deliverable, from executive summary to analysis key takeaways and insights, while managing several projects concurrently.
  • Deliver measurable business impact and consulting outputs that exceed client expectations

Create High-Quality Client Deliverables

  • Personally create polished, executive-ready client deliverables including PowerPoint presentations, strategic narratives, frameworks, workshop materials, and recommendations.
  • Develop compelling storytelling grounded in data, insights, and commercial realities.
  • Synthesize large amounts of information into concise, actionable takeaways for executive audiences.
  • Ensure final outputs are accurate, commercially relevant, visually compelling, and aligned to client objectives.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools to accelerate content development, insight generation, storytelling, and presentation creation while maintaining high standards of quality and strategic thinking.

Operate with Agility in a Fast-Paced Environment

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while maintaining exceptional quality and responsiveness.
  • Navigate ambiguity and shifting client priorities with strong judgment and adaptability.
  • Proactively identify risks, roadblocks, and opportunities to improve project outcomes.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with both internal and external stakeholders

Required Skills And Capabilities

  • Strong commercial acumen with deep understanding of CPG growth drivers, retailer dynamics, commercialization, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to convert ambiguity into actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to independently create executive-level presentations and client-ready deliverables.
  • Outstanding storytelling and communication skills with strong executive presence.
  • Ability to synthesize complex analyses into clear, concise, commercially relevant insights.
  • Hands-on proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel with strong content creation capabilities.
  • High level of proficiency leveraging AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) to accelerate insight generation, develop content, and improve deliverable quality.
  • Strong client relationship management and influence skills across multiple organizational levels.
  • Ability to lead through influence in highly collaborative, matrixed environments.
  • Strong project leadership and prioritization skills across multiple concurrent engagements.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coaching and team development skills with the ability to elevate strategic thinking and execution across project teams.
  • Strong communication skills to thrive in a virtual and matrixed team environment.
  • Highly collaborative, resourceful, and accountable team player with a bias for action and continuous improvement.
  • Robust knowledge of CPG industry and category, brand, and retail strategies; sales strategy experience a plus.

Experience And Education

  • 10-15 years in CPG industry in Consulting, Sales Strategy, Commercial Strategy, Marketing, and/or General Management within CPG and retail.
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic client engagements and delivering measurable business impact.
  • Experience developing executive-level presentations and strategic recommendations independently.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred.
  • 4-year college degree required; MBA preferred
