Mechanical Engineer - Internship

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection and evaluation of electrical components and assemblies such as wiring harnesses, control panels, sensors, motors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Support engineering documentation, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, inspection checklists, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Observe and participate in manufacturing operations related to electrical assembly, panel wiring, system integration, and final equipment build.
• Collect and organize production and quality data related to electrical defects, rework, and system performance.
• Assist with basic electrical and controls-related root cause investigations under the direction of senior engineers.
• Support equipment testing activities, including power-up checks, I/O verification, functional testing, and troubleshooting.
• Participate in continuous improvement or intern-specific projects with defined goals and deliverables.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Controls teams in day-to-day operations.
• Adhere to all electrical safety, quality, and workplace standards.
• Complete a final project summary or presentation at the conclusion of the internship.

Job Requirements

Education

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Junior Level or higher preferred at time of internship.

Experience

• No prior professional engineering experience required.
• Previous internships, co-ops, lab work, or hands-on coursework involving electrical systems, controls, or automation are a plus but not required.

Skills & Abilities

• Basic understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals (circuits, motors, power distribution, control systems).
• Familiarity with industrial electrical components and manufacturing processes through coursework or hands-on experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Familiarity with electrical CAD tools or PLC programming software is a plus.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Professional, safety-minded, and reliable.

• Exposure to multiple functional areas (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Controls).
• Regular check-ins and feedback throughout the summer.
• Hands-on project work with measurable outcomes.
