Job Description
The Body Shop Manager is responsible for the overall performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction of the collision repair department. This role oversees daily operations, staff productivity, insurance relationships, cycle time, and quality control to ensure all repairs meet OEM and dealership standards.
Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Manage day-to-day body shop operations, including scheduling, workflow, and repair timelines
- Ensure efficient repair planning and blueprinting processes
- Monitor and reduce cycle time while maintaining quality standards
- Oversee parts ordering, returns, and coordination with the parts department
Financial Performance
- Drive departmental profitability through labor sales, parts gross, and cost control
- Monitor KPIs such as gross profit %, touch time, severity, and supplement rates
- Manage budgets, expenses, and vendor relationships
Team Management
- Lead, train, and develop body technicians, painters, and estimators
- Maintain technician productivity and efficiency targets (120% where applicable)
- Conduct regular performance reviews and enforce accountability standards
- Recruit and retain high-performing team members
Customer Experience
- Ensure consistent communication with customers throughout the repair process
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Maintain CSI scores at or above dealership expectations
Insurance & DRP Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with insurance partners
- Ensure estimates and supplements are accurate, timely, and well-documented
- Maintain compliance with DRP program requirements
Quality Control & Compliance
- Enforce OEM repair procedures and safety standards
- Conduct final inspections on completed repairs
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cycle Time
- Gross Profit % (Labor & Parts)
- Technician Productivity & Efficiency
- Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)
- Supplement Frequency & Accuracy
- Work in Process (WIP) Levels
Qualifications
- 3 years of body shop or collision center management experience
- Strong understanding of estimating systems (CCC, Mitchell, or Audatex)
- Proven track record of driving profitability and operational efficiency
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with OEM repair standards and insurance processes
Preferred Attributes
- Dealership experience (GM preferred)
- I-CAR or ASE certifications
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- High level of accountability and attention to detail
