Description - The After School Club (ASC) is part of the wider Extended Day Program at Mark Day School. The ASC provides a safe, fun, inclusive after-school environment for students K-8 to create, play, relax, and engage as kind and conscientious members of our community. The ASC provides opportunities for both structured and self-directed activities across all grade levels. Students are encouraged to be creative and innovative, kind and curious as they engage in outdoor play and sports, arts, crafts and various projects throughout the year. Program staff will gain valuable experience working with students in an independent school setting. This position is part-time up to 5 days per week from 2:45pm to 6:00pm during the school year, with additional hours on Early Dismissal Days, Teacher Work Days and occasional mornings.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students
- Build connections with students, staff, parents and guardians
- Supervise and actively engage with students during play and projects
- Mediate student disputes and conflicts
- Support student’s emotional growth and social-emotional skill development
- Assist with homework and serve snack as needed
- Sign students in and out and keep track of daily attendance
- Maintain a calm, clean and attractive physical space
- With the Director, develop and carry out programs and projects to enrich the after school experience
- Support the Mark Day School Mission and model the seven pillars of character, in addition to modeling flexibility and kindness in a variety of situations
- Communicate with the Director regarding student incidents and daily happenings
- Participate in professional development and school events as required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with elementary-age students in a school and/or educational setting
- Reliable, courteous and professional demeanor, including punctuality and respect
- Detail-oriented and well organized
- Ability to take initiative in leading activities, intervening in and managing conflict, supporting student wellbeing
- Enthusiasm, creativity and joy in working with students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with both students and adults
- Willingness to learn and develop skills by keeping up with best practices in education
- TB and LiveScan will be required
