About Us:
The Argonne Chinese After-School Program (CASP) at Argonne Elementary School in San Francisco’s Richmond District was founded and established by parents in 1999. The program provides the school community grades TK-5 with an opportunity to learn the Chinese language (Mandarin) and culture.
Position Summary
CASP is seeking a motivated and energetic Teacher Assistant (TA) to join our after-school team. In this role, the TA will help cultivate a safe, enriching, and educational environment where elementary school students can explore, create, and grow.
Under the guidance of the Site Manager and the Chinese Mandarin Instructor, TAs will play a key role in supporting our Chinese Instructors in providing support to students’ social-emotional development and their journey toward a. beginner level of Mandarin language proficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support: Assist the lead Mandarin instructor in delivering engaging Mandarin language lessons and cultural enrichment activities.
- Program Support: Work flexibly and collaboratively with Site Manager, lead Mandarin Instructors and other staff. Support in creating a positive and safe environment for all program participants. Lead class when lead teacher is absent.
- Student Engagement: Foster a positive learning environment by supporting students’ social and emotional needs and encouraging active participation.
- Supervision & Safety: Provide supervision during indoor and outdoor activities, and lead "yard duty" and outdoor play, ensuring student safety during breaks and transitions.
- Operations: Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including equipment setup and light facility maintenance. Attend and participate in all required agency and program related training, and team meetings.
- Professionalism: Maintain clear and respectful and ongoing communication with parents, CASP staff, and the CASP Board in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous work with elementary-aged students ages 5-11 years old.
- Work authorization in the United States.
- Must be able to complete background check (LiveScan) and TB test clearances.
- Reliable, patient, and flexible with a high level of energy for working with children.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Language Skills: Ability to speak, write, and teach in Mandarin or Cantonese.
- Certification: CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain).
- Bilingualism: Fluency in both English and Mandarin/Cantonese. Ability to read and write pinyin and simplified Chinese.
- Curriculum Skills: Experience following and implementing structured lesson plans.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 21.0 per week
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- After school
- Monday to Friday
