What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Choice Voucher Specialist position at Marion County Housing Authority?
Marion County Housing Authority is seeking a program administrator for the Housing Choice Voucher program. We service 282 vouchers throughout Marion County.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position serves as liaison with tenants, community groups, MCHA staff, etc., to assure smooth day-to-day operations of the Housing Choice Voucher program’s administrative areas.
Duties include:
- Maintain a professional image and attitude as a liaison between MCHA, applicants, residents and landlords.
- Coordinate the taking of applications; determination of eligibility; verification of income, and select applicants for the Housing Program. Ensure all phases of process are in accordance with established Authority Administration Plan and HUD regulations.
- Be knowledgeable of and enforce HUD regulations and guidelines relative to the Housing Choice Voucher Program Operation, administration and compliance.
- Ensure accuracy in the implementation of the Housing Program into the Authority’s computer system. Areas of major priority are: Waiting List, Housing Assistance Payments Register, Tenant Account Files, etc. Become proficient with computer programs so as to maximize efficiency in program operations.
- Track units receiving payments versus units allocated to the Housing Choice Voucher Program to prevent actual units in the program from exceeding the number of units allocated.
- Coordinate and develop landlord orientation program. Must implement a comprehensive orientation program to ensure landlords and voucher holders are fully aware of their responsibilities and duties under the program.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree desired and minimum three years experience or equivalent work experience in administration, Housing Choice Voucher or administrative or business practices, or equivalent combination of experience and education in a related field. Good organizational skills and knowledge of HUD Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program and/or property management desired. Must have strong administrative abilities. Familiarity with grant applications desirable. Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials. Valid driver’s license and insurability required. Must be willing to travel for training. Drug free workplace, EOE.
