Position Summary
The Gas Free Technician is responsible for supporting and performing a variety of marine environmental and industrial services, including tank cleaning, pumping and transfer operations, confined space work, equipment setup, ventilation, and shipboard cleaning operations. Technicians work as part of a team to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Perform and support tank cleaning operations
- Assist with pumping and transfer operations
- Perform engine room cleaning and environmental services
- Support confined space entry operations
- Assist with opening, cleaning, and closing tanks and other shipboard spaces
- Participate in emergency response and environmental support activities as needed
Equipment & Setup
- Assist with equipment setup, staging, and breakdown
- Route and connect hoses, pumps, and ventilation equipment
- Monitor equipment performance and identify operational concerns
- Support troubleshooting and operational adjustments as needed
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Comply with confined space entry requirements and operational safety standards
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, and near misses
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and job briefings
Teamwork & Professional Development
- Work effectively as part of a crew in fast-paced industrial environments
- Follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and reliability

Required Qualifications
- Reliable transportation and attendance
- Real ID-compliant driver's license or state issued ID required
- Ability to obtain security and access credentials, including DBIDS, TWIC, and other shipyard badges
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Ability to undergo respirator fit testing
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, and prolonged standing
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights, and shift work as required
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 certification
- HAZWOPER 40 certification
