Position Overview

United Mechanical & Flushing Specialists is seeking motivated, dependable, and safety-conscious Flushing Technicians to support shipboard and industrial flushing operations. We are hiring technicians at the Class I, Class II, and Class III levels, with opportunities based on experience, technical knowledge, and leadership capabilities.

Flushing Technicians assist with the setup, operation, maintenance, and breakdown of specialized flushing equipment used to clean and restore mechanical systems. Responsibilities include routing hoses, assembling flushing systems, monitoring equipment, maintaining operational records, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring systems are properly restored following flushing operations.

Candidates must be willing to work in shipyard and industrial environments, travel to project locations, and support day and night shift operations as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Mobilize, stage, assemble, and set up flushing equipment and temporary service lines.

• Route hoses and configure flushing systems in accordance with technical drawings, system requirements, and safety procedures.

• Operate and monitor flushing pumps, filtration units, hoses, valves, and related equipment.

• Inspect equipment for leaks, damage, and operational deficiencies.

• Monitor flushing operations and report equipment or system issues to supervision.

• Maintain accurate operational logs, equipment records, and required quality documentation.

• Assist with Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) documentation and project turnover packages as applicable.

• Perform equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.

• Assist with system disconnection, restoration, equipment inventory, and demobilization.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout project execution.

• Follow company safety policies, shipyard regulations, customer requirements, and applicable technical procedures.

• Support supervisors and fellow technicians to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Position Levels & Experience Requirements

Class III – Entry-Level Technician

• Entry-level position with a focus on learning flushing procedures and equipment operation.

• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.

• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.

• Prior mechanical, construction, industrial, or shipyard experience is preferred but not required.

Class II – Mid-Level Technician

• Minimum of 2 years of flushing, mechanical, industrial maintenance, or related experience.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and flushing paths.

• Ability to perform flushing operations independently with minimal supervision.

• Experience troubleshooting equipment and maintaining operational documentation.

• Ability to support and mentor junior technicians.

Class I – Senior-Level Technician

• Minimum of 3–4 years of flushing, mechanical, industrial maintenance, or related experience.

• Strong knowledge of PCPs, NAVSEA drawings, and technical directives.

• Experience leading crews and coordinating flushing operations.

• Ability to support project planning, ship checks, equipment logistics, and operational troubleshooting.

• Experience with OQE documentation, equipment tracking, and technical reporting.

• Ability to serve as an on-site technical lead while maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required.

• Ability to pass applicable background screening requirements.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS access credentials.

• Valid driver's license required; Real ID-compliant identification is required for applicable access and travel requirements.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures.

• Ability to work in shipyard, shipboard, and industrial environments.

• Willingness to travel, work overtime, and support day or night shifts as project requirements dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous flushing, shipyard, marine, industrial maintenance, or mechanical experience.

• Experience with pumps, filtration systems, hoses, valves, and mechanical fluid systems.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, PCPs, and NAVSEA documentation.

• CDL.

• OSHA maritime, confined space, or HAZWOPER training.

• Experience with quality documentation, equipment maintenance, or shipboard operations.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.

• Ability to climb ladders, access shipboard spaces, and work in confined areas as required.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.

• Ability to work aboard Navy and commercial vessels and at industrial facilities in varying environmental conditions.

• Exposure to industrial equipment, noise, heat, chemicals, and other shipyard conditions.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection equipment as applicable.

• Availability for travel, extended hours, weekends, and overtime based on project needs.
