Position Summary

The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles, including tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, flatbeds, and heavy-duty stake body trucks, in support of shipyard, industrial, environmental, and emergency response operations. This position primarily supports local routes with employees home most nights; however, occasional out-of-town travel may be required based on operational needs.


The CDL Driver plays a critical role in transporting hazardous and non-hazardous liquids and materials between jobsites, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), disposal facilities, and customer locations while maintaining strict compliance with DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company safety regulations. In addition to transportation duties, the CDL Driver assists field operations personnel with pumping operations, hose setup, transfers, and other production support activities to ensure safe and efficient project execution.


Key Responsibilities


Vehicle & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate CDL Class A commercial vehicles including: 
    • Tanker trucks
    • Vacuum trucks (vac trucks)
    • Roll-off trucks
    • Flatbeds
    • Heavy-duty stake body trucks
  • Transport hazardous and non-hazardous liquids, waste streams, and materials to approved disposal or treatment facilities.
  • Load and unload liquids and materials from jobsites, vessels, tanks, industrial systems, and disposal facilities.
  • Operate manual transmission vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all loads are properly secured and transported in accordance with DOT and environmental regulations.

 

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with hazardous material transportation requirements and manifest documentation.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment.
  • Ensure spill kits, emergency response equipment, and required safety supplies are present, stocked, and serviceable.
  • Immediately report vehicle, equipment, or safety concerns to the Transportation Supervisor and Fleet Maintenance Facility Manager.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, manifests, trip records, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and emergency response activities as required.

 

Operations Support

  • Assist production crews with setup and monitoring of hoses and pumping operations.
  • Support wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) personnel with liquid transfers and disposal activities.
  • Assist with field operations to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted project execution.
  • Respond to emergency response callouts and after-hours work as needed.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and facility personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A license
  • Hazmat (H) endorsement
  • Tanker (N) endorsement
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating tanker trucks and/or vacuum trucks
  • Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles
  • Ability to pass: 
    • DOT physical examination
    • DOT Clearinghouse check
    • Driving record check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain: 
    • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
    • DBIDS (Defense Biometric Identification System) access credentials
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to work occasional out-of-town assignments and emergency response callouts as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in shipyard, maritime, or industrial environments
  • Experience supporting environmental services, industrial cleaning, or emergency response operations
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment and disposal procedures
  • Experience working around U.S. Navy or government facilities

 

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in shipyards, industrial facilities, marine environments, wastewater treatment facilities, and active jobsites.
  • Position requires exposure to varying weather conditions, confined spaces, industrial noise, and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, lifting, pulling hoses, and manual labor may be required.
  • Drivers are typically home most nights; however, occasional overnight travel and extended work hours may be required based on operational and emergency response needs.
  • Must be available for overtime, weekends, and emergency response assignments as required.
