Job Description

The preschool at Marin Primary & Middle School is a developmental, play-based program where children between the ages of 2 to 5 years old thrive in nurturing and dynamic classrooms. Expertly guided by supportive teams of teachers, preschool children explore and discover, learning through play, building self-confidence, gaining independence, and developing critical social and early academic skills through their interactions with their teachers and other children. Teachers use emergent curriculum, inspired by child interest, to honor the whole child and lay the foundational building blocks of early cognitive and social-emotional learning. At MP&MS, teachers work together to understand every student from multiple perspectives, build meaningful relationships with students and their families, maintain high standards and best practice, and promote a love of learning.
Position Overview
We are seeking a warm, collaborative, and highly organized Assistant Preschool Director to serve as a key leadership partner to the Preschool & Primary School Director in guiding the preschool division. In this administrative role, the Assistant Director provides operational and instructional leadership, supervises associate and floating teachers, oversees daily staffing and scheduling, manages supply ordering and materials, and supports curriculum implementation.
The Assistant Director plays a vital role in fostering relationships with students, families, and teachers, ensuring every member of the community feels seen, valued, and supported. This position requires a positive, solution-oriented mindset, professional discretion, and the ability to balance operational responsibilities with relationship-centered leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Division Leadership & Daily Operations: Oversee daily staffing coverage, schedules, and substitutes; monitor time sheets and staffing ratios; anticipate and resolve operational challenges; lead division and team meetings. Ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation standards and health and safety protocols.
- Faculty Supervision & Development: Mentor and supervise associate and floating teachers; support lead teachers in creating engaging, developmentally appropriate classrooms; participate actively in hiring, onboarding, and faculty evaluation; foster a culture of collaboration, positivity, and professionalism.
- Preschool Licensing Compliance: Assist with preschool licensing compliance, including tracking teacher qualifications and permits, maintaining accurate and required records, and ensuring documentation is up to date in accordance with state regulations.
- Budget & Materials Management: Monitor classroom budgets; oversee ordering of instructional materials and track expenditures.
- Admissions & Community Engagement: Support tours and the enrollment process; participate in school events; maintain a welcoming presence during arrival and dismissal times.
- Relationships & Communication: Build trusting, positive collaborative relationships with teachers, students and families; communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally; maintain confidentiality and discretion; model warmth, flexibility, empathy, and inclusivity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
- Site Supervisor or Program Director certification (or willingness to obtain)
- 3 - 5 years of experience in an early childhood setting.
- Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Warm, solution-oriented approach with flexibility, positivity, sound judgment and a focus on collaboration.
Hours of employment: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional hours for meetings or events.
Start Date: August 17, 2026
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
