Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Qualified applicants must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Georgia teaching certificate in the appropriate field.
  • Preferred candidates have an advanced degree and/or hold IB and Gifted certification.

Experience:

 

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching percussion performance, including snare, mallets, timpani, and auxiliary instruments, in school or community music settings.

Preferred:

  • At least 3 years of successful percussion instruction, with a proven track record of preparing students for concerts, adjudicated events, and ensemble participation.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Specializes in percussion instruction, providing students with foundational and advanced skills in rhythm, technique, ensemble performance, and musical literacy. 

  3. Leads and develops percussion ensembles, collaborates with band directors, and supports school performances, festivals, and competitions through expert percussion pedagogy.

  4. Designs engaging, hands-on percussion learning experiences that build students’ confidence, technical skill, and appreciation for music through individualized and group instruction.

  5. Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, pedagogical knowledge and needs of students.
  6. Plans using state and district standards and curricula, data, effective strategies and resources to meet the needs of all students.
  7. Analyzes and uses data to inform instruction.
  8. Selects a variety of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies that are valid and appropriate.
  9. Provides a safe, well-managed environment that is conducive to learning.
  10. Exhibits a commitment to professional ethics and the school’s mission.
  11. Participates in ongoing professional learning and implements new learning in the classroom environment.
  12. Carries out duties in accordance with federal and state laws, Code of Ethics and established state and local school board policies.
  13. Participates in ongoing professional learning and implements new learning in the classroom environment.
  14. Communicates effectively with students, parents or guardians, district and school personnel and other stakeholders in ways that enhance student learning.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

  • Maintains appearance appropriate to the occasion in contacts with students, parents, staff, and community.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication.
  • Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.
