Up to 19.5 hours per week within the following business hours:


Academic Year: Monday - Thursday, 8am - 5pm
Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 6pm

Job Summary


Assists lab staff in preparing the department's instructional laboratories for class as directed by supervisor and following standard lab safety protocols. Duties may include refreshing and tidying a lab room's supplies between classes, wiping down lab counters, washing glassware, returning scientific equipment to supply cabinets, and making solutions. Training will be provided. May include exposure to anatomical specimens such as bones and preserved organs, hazardous chemicals, fragile glassware and biohazards such as non-disease causing bacteria.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Able to follow instructions accurately and with attention to detail
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Team player
  • Reliability (to show up as scheduled and complete tasks as assigned)
  • Prior experience in chemistry or biology lab and/or interest in science majors preferred but not required.
