Job Summary
The Toolroom Assistant supports the daily operation of the Automotive Technology toolroom and instructional shop areas. This position assists faculty, staff, and students by checking tools and equipment in and out, maintaining a clean and organized toolroom, supporting inventory activities, and helping promote safe shop practices.
The Toolroom Assistant works under the direction of automotive faculty or the toolroom supervisor and is not responsible for performing work beyond their training or authorization.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. - FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
- FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
- FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
- The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

- Demonstrated familiarity with common hand tools and basic shop equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, established procedures, and safety requirements.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with faculty, staff, and fellow students.
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks and ask for assistance when needed.
Experience using spreadsheets, inventory systems, barcode scanners, or checkout logs.
Special Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in an automotive instructional shop and toolroom environment.
- The position may involve standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and moving tools, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
- Exposure to typical shop conditions, including noise, dust, automotive fluids, odors, fumes, and moving equipment.
- Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, while in shop areas.
