What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator/Sales Position position at Marcor, LLC?
About Marcor
Marcor Industrial Services is a specialty contractor delivering industrial structural repair and protective coatings for refineries, chemical plants, water and wastewater facilities, power generation, and heavy manufacturing. Our work protects critical assets in demanding service environments. We are growing, and this role is central to that growth.
The Role
This is a dual-hat position for someone who can both price the work and go get it. You will own estimates from drawing takeoff through bid submission, and you will own the client relationships that generate those bids in the first place. If you are an estimator who is comfortable in front of a plant manager, maintenance superintendent, or GC project executive, and who wants your compensation tied to what you bring in, this is the seat.
You will work directly with company leadership with real autonomy over your territory and your book of clients.
Estimating Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, and coating schedules to develop complete, accurate bids
- Perform surface area takeoffs for structural steel, tanks, vessels, piping, concrete floors, walls, and containment areas
- Select and price coating systems, surface preparation methods (abrasive blast, hydroblast, mechanical prep), access, and containment
- Build labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs into a defensible estimate using realistic production rates, coverage rates, and loss factors
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkdowns; document existing conditions and access constraints
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations
- Prepare and present proposals with clear clarifications, exclusions, and qualifications
- Support handoff to operations and price change orders as work progresses
- Maintain historical cost data and improve estimating accuracy over time
Business Development Responsibilities
- Identify, pursue, and close new industrial coatings and repair opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with plant and facility owners, maintenance and reliability managers, engineers, and general contractors
- Grow revenue within existing accounts through turnaround planning, capital project pursuit, and repeat maintenance work
- Track bid opportunities, plan rooms, and public bid postings in target markets, including municipal water and wastewater
- Represent Marcor at industry events, trade associations, and client facilities
- Maintain a disciplined pipeline with accurate forecasting and consistent follow-up
- Provide market intelligence on competitors, pricing trends, and upcoming capital spending
- Partner with leadership on target markets, pricing strategy, and go/no-go decisions
