The Opportunity: The HSSE Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) programs at the plant to ensure compliance with company policies, as well as state and federal regulations. This role oversees the administration, continuous improvement, and maintenance of the Health and Safety Management System, Security protocols, and Environmental Compliance measures.
As a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, the HSSE Specialist partners with plant leadership to provide coaching, training, and guidance to ensure consistent application of HSSE programs across all functions. This position also drives initiatives focused on employee wellness, environmental stewardship, and safety culture, fostering safer, healthier, and more efficient ways of working.

- Implement and maintain the Health & Safety Management System in compliance with OSHA and corporate standards.
- Develop and deliver safety training, including new hire orientation and ongoing employee development.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
- Manage injury claims, return-to-work programs, and required OSHA/Workers’ Compensation reporting.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits (air, water, waste) and lead improvement initiatives.
- Oversee site security programs, access control, and emergency response procedures.
- Ensure a secure and safe facility by managing and maintaining a well-documented security plan and issuing badges to all personnel who need to access the building.
- Provide and manage food defense measures as required.
- Seek continuous improvement by ensuring that regular inspections, hazard analysis, risk assessments, and audits are conducted
- Partner with plant leadership and Regional HSSE to foster continuous improvement in safety, wellness, and environmental performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the plant’s overall HSSE objectives
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role in a manufacturing or process industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- OSHA or other safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST) highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, environmental, and security regulations.
- Proven ability to train, coach, and influence employees at all levels.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
