Position Summary:

To direct and coordinate all community, career and technical education (CTE) programs to the extent that each one meets the needs and expectations of students and teachers and also the legal and regulatory mandates.

 

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervises the Assistant Director of Manual Career Center; CTE Curriculum Coordinator Staff; and Coordinator of Real World Learning.
  • Develop leadership capacity of Assist Director and CTE Coordinators
  • Collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment of CTE pathways, Real World Learning, and academic master schedules. 
  • Identifies and addresses in-service needs for CTE staff and oversees high-quality professional learning aligned to state and national CTE trends, instructional best practices, credentialing updates, and ongoing local, state, and national PD opportunities.
  • Responsible for year-over-year growth in CTE participation, credential attainment, dual credit, and work-based learning engagement.
  • Develops and administers annual budgets and ensures alignment of expenditures with district and federal requirements. 

 

Program Design, Compliance & Improvement

  • Works with schools and departments to design and refine CTE and academic pathways that prepare students for high-demand, high-wage careers and meet state, federal, and industry standards.
  • Determines current and projected educational, workforce, and community needs using research, labor data, and advisory council input; develops long- and short-range plans.
  • Leads annual and multi-year evaluation cycles for CTE program performance, enrollment, credential attainment, work-based learning participation, and labor-market alignment.

 

  • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of state, federal, and local program requirements and monitors compliance, reporting, documentation, and audits.
  • Monitors compliance for all CTE funding streams and ensures accurate reporting, documentation, and audits. 
  • Acts as facilitator for all public and private grants allocated to CTE, including Perkins.

Partnerships, Workforce Engagement & Outreach

  • Partners with community business leaders, workforce boards, colleges, and industry representatives to expand program offerings and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Represents the district at community, workforce, and advisory council events.
  • Serves as primary liaison between KCPS and business, industrial, workforce, and economic development entities; develops cooperative agreements with public/private agencies.
  • Provides essential program information to all stakeholders and leads marketing/awareness campaigns for CTE, dual-credit, credentialing, and RWL opportunities.
  • Co-leads marketing and recruitment efforts for internal and external students.

 

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Qualifications)

 

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Missouri Vocational Director Certification (or eligibility)
  • Missouri Secondary School Principal Certification (or eligibility)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of high school or CTE classroom teaching experience

  • Education Specialist or Doctorate Degree
  • Experience as a Vocational Director or district administrator in an urban secondary setting.

Physical Demands:

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Terms of Employment:

Length of work year: 261 day/ 12 month employee, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week 

 

Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employees and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
