Mantell Associates is partnered with a growing, mid-sized transatlantic CRO, who is seeking a seasoned commercial leader to join its executive team as Vice President, Business Development.
This is a high-impact role responsible for shaping and delivering growth across North America and Europe - ideal for a strategic, deal-oriented professional with deep industry experience.
Vice President, Business Development - Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the global commercial strategy for clinical services across US and European markets, supporting both new client acquisition and expansion of existing partnerships
- Lead a high-performing business development team: set objectives, build pipeline, manage forecast, coach talent, and ensure team targets are met or exceeded
- Identify, negotiate and close complex outsourcing agreements (Phase I-III clinical trials, site services, adaptive design, full study delivery) with biopharma sponsors and strategic partners
- Act as key liaison with senior decision-makers at biotech and pharmaceutical clients, building trust and growing long-term relationships
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Data Management, Quality, Finance) to ensure commercial promises align with operational capabilities and delivery excellence
- Provide market insights: track trends, competitive intelligence, and business model innovation; use these to inform service offering advancements and commercial positioning
- Represent the company at major industry events, investor forums, and key client meetings to elevate brand visibility and drive partnership opportunities
Vice President, Business Development - Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of business development or commercial leadership experience in the CRO or life sciences services industry
- Proven track record of leading BD teams, closing multi-million-dollar deals and achieving significant revenue growth in clinical research or outsourcing services
- Strong strategic mindset and commercial acumen: able to translate complex service offerings into value propositions and govern contract negotiations with sophistication
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills; able to influence internal executive teams and external sponsors alike
- Deep understanding of clinical development services, trial delivery models, regulatory environments across US/EU; global commercial mindset preferred
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Boston area (US) with eligibility to work; global travel required
